Shawn's POV

I slowly turned the knob of the hospital room door, the soft creaking sound was barely audible.

Shutting it behind me, I walked over to where Emily laid, her pale, cold body tucked underneath the white hospital bedsheets.

"Hey, baby girl," I whispered, swallowing as I pulled a chair up to the edge of the bed, "it's Shawn."

I tucked some pieces of her hair behind her ear, gently caressing the soft skin of her cheek with my thumb, biting down on my lip as I looked at her.

Tears brimmed my eyes, the events of the previous day replaying over and over again in my mind.

The car crash, glass flying everywhere, the love of my life being taken to a hospital, and now my sitting beside her, waiting for her to wake up.

"I love you so much, baby doll," I whispered, taking her small, cold hand in mine, rubbing the top of it with my thumb, "I know you're sleeping right now, but I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry this happened."

I blinked back more tears, some sliding down my cheeks before I wiped them away with the sleeve of my sweatshirt.

"I just want you to know that it wasn't your fault, love, don't blame yourself," I croaked, my voice still a bit hoarse from crying earlier this morning.

"I miss getting to wake up next to you, and to hold you in my arms," I shook my head as more tears streamed down my cheeks.

"You know, sometimes I think, if I hadn't called you while you were driving, maybe-" I licked my lips, the thought of the different possible outcomes making me sick to my stomach, "maybe we wouldn't be here right now."

Her eyelids fluttered open as she turned to look at me, fear filled her soft, brown eyes as she gently pulled her hand away from mine.

"Hi, baby girl," I lifted my sweatshirt up, wiping my tears away with the hem, keeping my voice soft and low, "how are you doing?"

She kept her eyes on mine, not blinking once as she stared at me, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion and sadness.

Her tongue ran along her bottom lip, turning them a soft, pink color.

I brought my chair closer to the side of the bed as she backed away, her body moving closer to the corner of the hospital bed, bringing the sheets up, holding them tight against her small figure.

She looked at me in confusion, observing me, and that's when it hit me. I realized what was happening, and tears immediately poured from my puffy and red eyes.

"Who are you?"
