"You got yourself kicked out of the game over some boy?" I raised an eyebrow at the question, reclining comfortably in the plush chair.
"The game was getting boring," I replied nonchalantly, enjoying the bewilderment on his face.
"Boring? The game that people would kill to get into?" He sounded incredulous, clearly struggling to comprehend my indifference.
"Exactly," I confirmed with a smirk. "It's too predictable. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to ensure my boyfriend survives."
"Just wait," he interjected hastily, his expression shifting from disbelief to a more serious demeanor.
I turned towards him, curiosity piqued. "A proposition?"
He nodded solemnly, stepping closer. "I'm not getting any younger. I need a successor... Your mother was meant to take over."
My thoughts momentarily turned to my mother, realizing I had overlooked her complexities in the midst of everything else. This man, my grandfather whom I'd never known until now, was offering me something unexpected.
"You want me to become the next proprietor?" I asked, incredulous yet intrigued.
He nodded again, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Yes. Rohan can continue as he does, but you, you have the blood."
I hesitated, weighing the gravity of his offer. "I'll do it but I'm not abandoning Jameson," I finally decided, thinking of my boyfriend who had unwittingly dragged me into this world. "I won't agree to anything unless he's safe."
He nodded understandingly. "Of course. He can always be your Factotum"
The prospect was enticing, a world of intrigue and responsibility laid out before me. But before anything else, I had to ensure Jameson's safety.
