29. The Worst Vacation

Talulahh's POV:

We were making Gronkle iron. We had a cycle going on. Meatlug made the iron. Hookfang heated it up. Barf and Belch flattened it.

Hiccup, Astrid and I walked up to the group. "Uh, Hiccup? I think Meatlug might be ready for a break." Fishlegs said. "She's starting to lose her gag reflex."

"Guess the perfect little machine isn't so perfect, after all." Snotlout grinned.

"Have you checked your dragon? The giant oven doesn't look to perky, either." Fishlegs retorted.

Snotlout looked over at Hookfang. The dragon totally missed the piece of metal he was aiming for and fired at Barf and Belch.

Angry, they shot back, almost hitting Stormfly. She shrieked and shot spines at them. The spines narrowly dodged Sapphire, who shot back at Stormfly. Toothless growled at the two, chasing them. "Really? You too, bud?" Hiccup said.

"All right, that's it! Dragons, to your corners!" Hiccup put his foot down. "What is going on around here?"

"Hiccup, we've been working really hard on these reinforcement walls." Astrid looked at my brother. "Everyone is just tired. Look at the dragons."

"You know, Hookfang and I could really use a vacay." Snotlout said.

"Vacation? Count is in. We'll grab our straw helmets and a chilling tale of Viking murder to read in some enchanted beach, laughing as the waves crash against us." Tuff said excitedly.

"Guys, I get that you're all tired, but remember why we're doing this." Hiccup looked around.

"Oh!" Snotlout feigned realisation. "Because you told us to. "

"No, because Viggo is out there." Hiccup corrected.  "And when he finally realizes he can't use the Dragon Eye without the key, he's gonna come looking for it. We can't leave the Edge unguarded again."

"So, yay or nay on the vacay?" Ruff asked.

"Oh, gods." Hiccup muttered.

Dahlia and I flew up to Hiccup's hut. "Working on your map, huh?" I grinned at my brother as we walked in.

"Need any help?" Dahlia asked sweetly.

"Uh, no, thanks. I'm just kind of-" Hiccup started.

"You sure?" I cut him off. "'Cause,you know, I'm pretty good with maps."

"Yep." Dahlia nodded along.

"Okay, fine. Out with it, you two. You didn't come all the way up here because you love cartography." Hiccup called us out.

"We object." I said.

"We think that everyone could use a break." Dahlia said. She always sounds so innocent.

"The dragons are really cranky from being overworked." I nodded.

"Guys, I thought we went over this." Hiccup said.

"Just hear us out." I said sternly.

"We've been making a lot of Gronkle Iron. A lot." Dahlia started.

"And Fishlegs told us that in doing so, we've exhausted the supply of sandstone on the Edge." I explained.

"And no sandstone means no Gronkle iron." Dahlia said, smiling simply.

"There's an island nearby that has a huge supply of it. It's desserted, quiet, and would be a great place to relax, and take a little break from real work." I explained.
