Smile For The Camera, Kitten!

Adriana's P.O.V.

I fiddled with my fingers but then I surprisingly mustered up the courage and poked Anna on the shoulder. She turned around and I cracked a nervous smile. She immediately noticed my distress and opened her mouth.

"What is it. . . . ?" she dragged on her sentence, unsure of the current situation.

"Anna, I need a favor." I went straight to the point, it was better than beating around the bush. I examined her face throughly, waiting for her reaction.

"Go on," she crossed her flawlessly shaven golden arms over her chest. Her completion was truly unique, her skin glowed even under the dim lighting that slightly illuminated the tiny storage room we were currently chit-chatting in.

"I have this thing tomorrow night and I won't be able to come to my shift so can you pretty please with cherries on top take over my shift? Just this one time, I promise." I pleaded, my whole body consumed with hope. I instantly grabbed her hand just for extra effect.

"I'm gonna need to know more about your departure in order for me to accept," a smirk made its way across her rosy tinted lips that I quite envied. Mine were dry and lifeless, similar to my being.

I scrunched my nose up in distaste, not a minute did the fact that she would inquire on this cross my mind. Of course she would've asked. Was it right to open my mouth? She was willing to do me a favor and the least I could do was spill, right?

"Is my little Adriana going on a date with a boy?" she imitated a youngster's squeaky and childish voice whilst pinching both of my cheeks. I restrained from gasping at her words. She knew. It wasn't a date though. I didn't necessarily find a girl blackmailed into such a situation referred to as a date. I playfully slapped her hands away a couple of times and she chuckled as I did so.

"It's not a date. . .Well, maybe but like not a date, it's just. . . yeah!" she understood that, right? To me, it was a hundred percent comprehensible. She raised a perfectly arched dark brow, that was the complete opposite of her bright, blonde waves that cascaded down her lissome back.

"How is it a date but not a date?" she questioned, confused over my not-so-comprehensible statement. A heavy sigh that I've been forcing to be kept in from the beginning managed to escape. Might as well just give in.

"Okay, I'm going to tell you everything but if you spill to anyone I will personally chop your body into squares and feed it to the starving children in Africa. Capisce?" I casually muttered, as if I threatened on a daily basis. She really shouldn't test me, I might just do that if a single word about this particular subject escaped her mouth.

"Yes, madam Lancaster. Now spill!" the eagerness was visible in her deep, emerald eyes that resembled a wild  evergreen forest. It was was also evident in her voice, as if she lived for gossip. Her giddiness was the reason behind my hesitance.

"You know how Ryder and I aren't really on good terms cause of the horrible encounters we had at school?" her head bobbed backwards and frontwards in fast motions. Her enthusiasm terrorized my thoughts but I nonetheless cleared my throat, that was begging for that specific liquid to quench my thirst. There has been a perpetual dryness in my throat every since I rose from my bed early this morning, but I got distracted and forgot. I was a tad bit hesitant, but I convinced myself that it was nothing thrilling nor fascinating to put so much thought into. There was no backing out now, so I just went for it.

"Well, he vowed to make my working life here a nightmare if I didn't quit and I obviously wasn't going anywhere because I'm stubborn and well, broke. He did annoying and childish things the other day like; pull my hair out. . .there literally was hair on his hands!" I over- dramatically exclaimed with my voice raising just a tiny fraction. "Trip me, spill beverages on my uniform, et- cetera. Then he announced a proposal, if I were to accompany him to some stupid gala tomorrow night, he'd leave me alone for good." I inhaled sharply, catching my long lost breath.
