The Name's Ryder

Adriana's P.O.V.

As I closed my locker, I heard the slight whispers erupting from each corner. I followed the girls' gazes and my own landed on that particular guy from yesterday. He entered from the school's chambers with all his glory, walking as if he owned the place.

He halted his steps once he reached an extremely fit blonde and unexpectedly smashed his lips on hers. They began intimately engaging in their 'session 'with no shame whatsoever. I grimaced. I was no fan of public display of affection.

His previous words flowed back into my thoughts. I had no idea on what he meant by 'not crossing paths with him' but I had no intention on doing such a thing. He radiated ignorance and annoyance, which was in no way delightful.

The buzzing fuss my phone made broke my train of thoughts. I pulled out the device and glanced down at the caller ID which had an unknown number plastered. I hit the answer button and brought the phone to my ear.

"Hello?" I muttered but received no answer in return, so I attempted for another try.

"Helloo?" my ears were welcomed with a faint sound of sobs coming from the other line. My brows creased as I remained confused, silently waiting for a reply.

"Anyone there?" irritation dominated my being and it resulted in me hanging up. I shrugged it off and quickly made my way to English class once the bell rang. I took a seat and pulled out my books. As I was placing my books down, I focused my attention on a red head with the most striking green eyes whom turned around and threw me a bright smile, showing off her pearly white teeth.

"Hi there," she greeted out of the blue. My brows knitted in confusion as to why she spoke to me, but I quickly covered it up with a slight smile.

"Uh. . hi?" I greeted back but in a way that lacked niceness.

"I'm Violet," she introduced herself and extended her thin arm and I mocked her actions.

"Adriana,"

"That's such an awesome name, sounds so unique and exotic, while I on the other hand am named after a color." I actually found her name more interesting than mine. Hers meant something; a beautiful, soft color.  Mine on the other hand, meant God knew what.

"Thanks," I wasn't full heartedly interested in the conversation, and I believed my short replies gave it away. It's not that I didn't like her, but I wasn't the most outgoing and social person living and breathing.

"So, why'd you move in the middle of the semester?" once she asked that, I began fidgeting with the hem of my sweatshirt, a habit I did often.

"I guess you could say personal reasons." she only nodded understandingly.

"So Adriana, do you wanna sit with me and my friends at lunch?" that statement mostly threw me off guard. I searched my mind for the right answer.

"Sorry I can't, but maybe next time." I didn't want to start something I had no power nor the intention to continue. Reason behind my lack of friends. I was completely aware of how lonely I seemed but I just couldn't bring myself to begin a friendship or a relationship with someone. And that ladies and gentlemen, is why I've never been kissed. Unless you consider a peck on the cheek at the age of seven a kiss. Yes, violet never asked me to be her friend but she could and I wasn't willing to be close with anyone.

"Oh, that's all right. But my table's open. Whenever you wanna sit with someone you know who to come too." she smiled one last time then turned around. The teacher's lecture began and pin-drop silence within the class occurred. When it was over, my journey towards the cafeteria initiated but I was stopped by my history teacher.
