Link had spent the past 2 weeks hiding from Y/N's mother in between his quest to find the ballad of the goddess, not being able to face her after what had transpired under his watch.

" 'I'd give my life'?" He berated himself, "Idiot!"

Fi materialised next to him in his room, his wood shavings scattered the floor, carving wood was a source of comfort. Fi stared at him blankly "Master Link, although your IQ is below average, it is not beneficial to undermine yourself. You posses an unusually high amount of emotional intelligence, however. I calculate a 69% chance you will succeed in your quest if you rely on it."

Link winced, he knew Fi was trying to help in her own way but her comment still stung. He flopped back down on his bed, "Then why did I keep messing up my interactions with her? Why did I end up pushing her away?"

"You are only human, Master Link. Judging by your mental state throughout my service to you, you over calculate- causing your system memory to malfunction and therefore rendering your responses invalid."

Fi tilted her head, "I suggest you go tell the entity known as Y/N's creator that there is a chance she is 97.8% deceased. Her Grace Hylia always valued those who never withheld information."

Link stared, "you mean her mother?" then his eyes widened and took on a horrified look, "No-! I can't- I can't face her! It would break her! She trusted me-! No!" his voice cracked, realising he'd broken the family further.

"Just-.... Just give me today! I'm going back to the temple- maybe if the imprisioned shows up-..." his voice abruptly cuts off, not being able to finish his sentence.

"Very well." Fi dematerialised. His sword faintly glowed with blue light, "Master Link... I was created to assist you. You are not completing Her Grace Hylia's prophecy alone."

---Timeskip (like an hour)---

"Finally got over yourself, dope?" Groose greeted Link with a surprisingly friendly slap on the back. Link nodded, slightly touched, "Is the err.... Groosenator finally working?"

Groose grinned widely, "Bet- I locked in and somehow I actually conquered projectile motion and now it's working. Just call me professor Owlan. tYpE sHiiii-" Link interrupted, his brain unable to keep up with the words Groose is saying, "Did the imprisoned come up again?"

"Nah, dawg." Groose shook his head "He's shaking in his boots because of my Groosenator." Groose narrowed his eyes, "Am I tripping or did you just get more built?" Link smacked Groose's hand away when Groose reached out and squeezed his bicep.

Groose glared, severely offended, "Dawg, it was a compliment! Blud's finally out of his pushover era and is finally standing on business!" Groose clapped a hand on Link's shoulder, looking him in the eye, "Never thought I'd say this, dope- but I'm actually proud of you."

Link awkwardly patted Groose's arm, "Thank you," trying not to let his smile at being called 'built' show. Groose slaps Link's back once again, "No Diddy-"

"wha-"

"You're so uncultured. Just go rescue your girlfriend." Groose rolls his eyes, "I miss her already." Link tilts his head, confused, "Who? Y/N or Zelda?" Groose sniffs, "Y/N obviously. Dawgs before Bops."

"Zelda is not a bop!" Link say, defensively, his eyes narrowed. Groose looks genuinely annoyed at this, "Okay, stop yapping! When did I ask? Why are you stalling?" He turns away, looking at Link over his shoulder, "I bet if you were the one who was eaten Y/N would've found you by now. It's taken you 2 weeks to even come back to the damn temple. Do you even care?"

Link looks taken aback, his eyes wide, "I'm not as strong as her-"

"You don't even try!" Groose snaps, his face set in a scowl, reminding Link of the day he stole his crimson loftwing, "If you really wanted to, you would- I know you would!" Link physically recoils. Groose of all people, giving him a moral lecture.

"Face it- you're just stalling because you're scared of what you'll see. You're scared of the consequences. I get it- life happens. It wasn't your fault she got eaten. But it IS your fault if you don't at least try to fix it. The measure of a person is how fast they get up from a fall- Stritch told me that." Groose pauses, scratching his head, "Actually a bug told Stritch and Stritch told me."

"Anyway, the point is- you better try to find Y/N or I will personally make the rest of your life a living hell." Groose says, his voice matter of fact, "I used to do it before and I can do it again."

Link isn't even looking at Groose, his head is bowed down. Feeling the familiar prick of tears, his breathing becomes quicker as the familiar ache in his chest rises again. His breaths become shallower and faster.

Groose ain't having it.

"No- I know that look. You're gonna cry, aren't you? The hell's crying gonna do about it?! Crying ain't gonna bring her back! I thought we went over this when you had that mid-life crisis episode a week back!"

Link turns away, "You don't understand-"

Groose rolls his eyes to the sky, praying to Hylia, "What I understand is that Y/N wouldn't be crying! she's have found you by now!"

"I'm not Y/N!" Link snaps, rubbing his teary eyes with the heel of his palm.

"Tough. Maybe Y/N should've been the hero. She may be stupid and reckless, but at least she was more of a knight than you'll ever be. Maybe she should've won the wing ceremony. You're hopeless and worthless. Do whatever you want, Link." Groose sighs, "I'd kill to have the bond you have with her."
