The warm sun of early July beat down on the cobblestone streets of Florence as Y/N L/N hauled her suitcase across the piazza, glaring daggers at the boy walking beside her. Mattheo Riddle, ever the picture of smug confidence, sauntered leisurely, his hands shoved into his pockets as if he didn't have a care in the world."You could help, you know," Y/N snapped, huffing as she adjusted her grip on her suitcase.
Mattheo shot her a sideways glance, his smirk widening. "I could, but where's the fun in that? Besides, you look like you've got it handled."
"Unbelievable," she muttered under her breath, her cheeks flushing with irritation.
Behind them, the rest of the group strolled in varying states of amusement. Theodore Nott had one arm slung around Daphne Greengrass's shoulders, murmuring something in her ear that made her giggle. Blaise Zabini and Lorenzo Berkshire trailed behind, discussing something with lazy ease, while Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson walked slightly ahead, Pansy clutching Draco's arm as she pointed out landmarks with exaggerated enthusiasm.
This trip had been Pansy's idea. She had pitched it as "a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience," but Y/N suspected her true motivation was the chance to spend uninterrupted time with Draco in a romantic setting. Somehow, Pansy had convinced the group—and their parents—that they'd all be staying at Mattheo's place for the summer.
The Hotel Mishap
By the time they reached the hotel, Y/N's patience had worn thin. She lingered at the back of the group as Pansy took charge at the check-in desk, chattering with the receptionist in rapid Italian.
Moments later, Pansy turned to them, looking sheepish. "So...there's been a bit of a mix-up."
"What kind of mix-up?" Mattheo asked, narrowing his eyes.
"They didn't realize how many of us there were," Pansy explained. "We only have four rooms."
The group exchanged glances. Theodore immediately shrugged. "No problem. Daphne and I will share."
"Same here," Draco added, wrapping an arm around Pansy.
"That leaves Blaise and me," Lorenzo said with a grin.
Y/N's stomach dropped as all eyes turned to her and Mattheo.
"You've got to be kidding me," she said flatly.
Mattheo grinned, clearly enjoying her discomfort. "Looks like it's you and me, sweetheart."
When Y/N and Mattheo entered their room, she froze in the doorway. There was only one bed—a large, plush-looking queen-sized bed, but a single bed nonetheless.
"You have got to be joking," she muttered.
Mattheo leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed and smirk firmly in place. "Aw, don't tell me you're scared to share a bed with me. I don't bite...unless you ask nicely."
Y/N turned to glare at him. "I'll sleep on the floor. Never in my life have I been in a hotel room where there isn't two beds.", she grumbled.
"Suit yourself," he said with a shrug, tossing his bag onto the bed and flopping onto it with exaggerated ease.
Despite the tension in their room, the group's days were filled with adventure. They explored the canals of Venice, taking gondola rides and wandering through narrow streets lined with colorful buildings. In Verona, they visited Juliet's balcony, where Pansy insisted on taking dozens of photos with Draco.
Y/N tried to focus on the beauty around her, but Mattheo's constant presence made it difficult. He seemed to delight in pushing her buttons, teasing her at every opportunity.
