Heart to Heart

I sat in front of my laptop pulling up all programs Red Robin said I'd need. I may have convinced him to also give me access to Mr. Wayne's satellite. Supplies for painting a picture and keeping facts straight were to my right ready to go.

While I waited for Jason, I watched and listened in on my parents' conversations.

"One of Marinette's friend's mother called. Apparently there was an accident at the circus they attended," my mom said.

"Oh no. What happened?"

"The acrobats' ropes broke."

"Are they safe?"

"Thankfully so. Performing without a net has to be the stupidest thing I've heard of. It doesn't matter how much practice you have. It's idiotic."

"How is the class?"

"Shaken I guess. Some think it was done as part of the act, but others think it was unfortunate luck."

"Didn't Marinette say she was going to perform?"

"Yes, but she said she'd be safe. I wouldn't worry too much."

"Did she say what act she was going to perform in?"

"No, but it's somewhere in the paperwork we signed. Why do you look so concerned Tom?"

"I was looking at the video someone took of the acrobats and the girl just reminded me of her."

"You're probably missing Marinette and looking too deep into it."

"Don't you see it though?" my dad asked handing my mom his phone.

"Watch as Dawn Danger soars through the air as a steady stream only to become a rushing river. The calm before the storm," they heard Haly say.

"I can see how the acrobat reminds you of Marinette, but she is too graceful. We would also know if Marinette was practicing to be a trapeze artist," my mom said no longer paying attention to the video.

"You haven't even been a part of my life recently," I scoffed wanting to turn off the live video but finding myself unable.

"Sabine, did you read what the contract said?"

"I got the overall gist of it. Did you read it?"

"No. I just signed the papers because I was too busy with the bakery. What if we unknowingly put our daughter in danger?"

"Pull up the contract so we can actually read it. If Marinette was up there, then we have people to contact and things to do."

"Now you want to act like my parents. What happened to the people who brushed me away? The ones who didn't care that I got a dose of fear toxin in me? What happened to my loving parents?"

"You ok?" I heard Jason ask behind me.

"How much did you hear?"

"Not much."

"They're going to read it through. They're going to figure out what they signed and throw a fit. It was all there. Nothing was hidden. They just didn't bother to read it."

"If they do, everyone is here for you. Your parents can't do anything."

"You're right, but my family issues isn't the reason I asked you to come over."

"Put away the video so you stop hurting yourself. Then you have all my attention."

"Good because I need every single ounce. Something strange has been going on, and I need your help," I said closing out of the video.
