Mikey's POV
The night was still as I made my way back to the beach house. The waves crashed gently against the shore, a rhythmic sound that should have been calming, but my mind was far from peace. Something unsettled me earlier, but I had brushed it off. Maybe it was the way Takemichi looked at me before he wandered off. Maybe it was the weight of everything that had been happening. Either way, I let it go.
By the time I stepped inside, the house was quiet. Chifuyu was sprawled across the couch, Baji had somehow ended up on the floor with a blanket half-draped over him, and Draken was leaning against the wall, arms crossed in sleep. Yza had curled up in one of the armchairs, breathing evenly. Everyone was here.
I glanced around, expecting to see Takemichi somewhere nearby, but I didn’t look too hard. He was probably in one of the rooms, exhausted after all the messing around we did earlier. With a quiet sigh, I made my way to my own spot, lying down and closing my eyes. I was too tired to think.
Sleep came easily.
---
A loud, insistent voice broke through my dreams. Something was shaking me.
"Mikey! Mikey, wake up!"
I groaned, swatting at the air before cracking one eye open. Yza hovered over me, her face twisted in panic. Behind her, the others were stirring, their groggy expressions quickly turning to concern.
"What?" I muttered, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "Why are you yelling so early?"
"Mikey," Yza's voice was tight with worry, "Takemichi’s gone. We can’t find him anywhere."
The weight of her words hit me like a brick.
Gone?
I bolted upright, my mind racing. "What do you mean he's gone? He was here last night!"
Chifuyu ran a hand through his hair, still shaking off sleep. "We checked everywhere—his room, outside, even down by the shore. He's not here, Mikey."
Draken was already pulling on his jacket, his face set in a grim line. "We need to split up and search for him."
My stomach twisted into knots. Takemichi wouldn’t just leave without saying anything. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
I clenched my fists, trying to steady my breathing. "Then we don’t waste any time. Let’s find him."
The room came alive with movement as everyone rushed to get ready. Fear clawed at my chest, but I shoved it down.
Where are you, Takemichi?
---
The search began immediately. We split into groups, covering as much ground as possible. Chifuyu and Baji went toward the town, asking around if anyone had seen Takemichi. Draken and Yza scoured the beach, looking for any signs of him. I rode my bike, checking the roads and alleyways, hoping to catch even the smallest clue.
Every passing minute made the sinking feeling in my chest worse.
We regrouped after hours of searching, frustration and worry evident on everyone’s faces. Nothing. Not a single lead.
Yza’s voice trembled. "Mikey… what if something happened to him?"
I clenched my jaw. "Something did happen to him. And whoever took him is going to regret it."
Just as I said that, Chifuyu came running towards us, his breath ragged. "Guys! Someone saw him!"
"Where?" I snapped, stepping forward.
Chifuyu swallowed hard. "A witness said they saw a group of men dragging someone into a van near the old pier. It matches Takemichi’s description."
The world seemed to stop for a moment.
Kidnapped.
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. My hands curled into fists, my nails digging into my palms. My blood boiled. Someone had taken Takemichi. And that meant one thing.
"Izana," I hissed.
Draken’s expression darkened. "If he’s behind this, then he’s making a huge mistake."
Baji cracked his knuckles, his eyes gleaming with anger. "Then let’s go get our idiot back."
No more hesitation. No more waiting.
We were bringing Takemichi home.
