Max walked to practice taking in calm breaths, he hadn't seen his dad all day and was expecting him to shout at him. Strangely when he entered the gym Mr Rhead simple nodded in his direction and told him to join the team as they ran laps. There were no comments from Mr Rhead telling him that he needed to put more effort into it or critiquing his playing. The rest of the team noticed the tension between Max and his dad and looked between them curiously through out practice, just waiting for one of them to blow up. “Alright that was a good practice lads, take a shower” Mr Rhead called dismissing the team,

“Dude what have you done?” one of the lads asked Max in the changing rooms, “He is really angry with you” he added patting Max on the back with encouragement.

The drive home was quiet with only the sound of the radio filling the car. “Are you going to talk to me?” Max finally asked as they walked into the house,

“What do you want to talk about? The fact that you lied to me yesterday and how ever many days before that?” he bellowed angry, “Alright what is your excuse? You have had all day to come up with one so lets here it” he said

“I... I.... I was helping Zack to study... I must have mixed up the names” Max said,

“You mixed the names up? That is what you came up with? Even your brothers could come up with a better lie” he snapped walking away from him in disgust.

“I haven't seen you since we got back from our holiday” Rachel’s mother said hugging her daughter tightly as she walked through the door. Rachel had gone to see her parents after school that day, she had missed them and needed to talk to her mother.

“I know I'm sorry, I've just been really busy lately” was her excuse, “so how was your holiday?” she asked as she sat in the living room with her mother who began to talk animatedly about her trip. Rachel's mind wondered to her troubles with her element and how she couldn't connect with it, she had a feeling that Kelly was right about her needing to be a mother to it, but she just didn't know how to.

“Hunny are you alright?” she asked noticing that her daughter was in a world of her own,

“What? Oh yes I'm just thinking about something” Rachel said snapping from her train of thought,

“What is worrying you?” Mrs Barnett asked placing her hand on Rachel's knee,

“How did you know you were going to be a good mother?” she suddenly asked surprising herself as well as her mother who's eyes widened, “Is there something you need to tell me Rachel?” she asked looking at Rachel's belly and back to her face.

“No! Not like that, don't worry I'm no pregnant” she laughed as her mother sighed in relief,

“Well why are you so interested?” she asked,

“I just wanted to know if you knew you would be a good mother and how you did it” she explained making her mother smile,

“Well I'm glad you think I am a good mother. To be completely honest I have no idea how I did it” she laughed, “I just took it one day at a time. As long as you give your child love and support you will always be the best mother you can be.” she added thoughtfully,

“But were you ever scared that you would mess up or something?” Rachel questioned and her mother laughed,

“Every single second. Many times I made the wrong decision or took my eye off you and lost you in the supermarket. It is just the way you learn, no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. It is learning from our mistakes that build us as people.” she explained, “Don't you worry dear, when the time is right, I know you will be the best mother in the world.” Mrs Barnett smiled lovingly at her daughter,
