Chapter 26

~ 4 months later ~

Sitting up in bed, I let out a scream and clutch my belly.

Sal sits up quickly and puts his arms round me.

"Are you ok?"

"B-baby! The baby's c-coming!" I groan as he grabs his phone and dials 911.

He carries me to the car and drives to the hospital as fast as he can.

The nurses wheel me to a room and lay me on the bed. I squeeze Sal's hand and try to push the baby out.

I push too hard and a pain shoots through my heart. I grab my chest and try to catch my breath.

One nurse gives me gas and air to help but it doesn't work.

Another nurse shouts "She's going into cardiac arrest."

I turn to look at Sal who's staring at me worriedly with his hands on the back of his neck.

A nurse tells him to leave.

I feel the nurses tugging trying to get the baby out as I close my eyes and become unconscious.
