The greater the commitment the more likely our love will last.
- Bell Hooks

Ryan's Pov:

"I know this a big commitment, but I'd love it if you moved in with me," I tell her as I loosen my tie and lie on her lap, ignoring the fast beating of my heart as I wait for her reply.

"What's wrong?" I ask as her lip trembles. "I am sorry, maybe it's too soon-"

She shakes her head as she twiddles with the silver ring that rests on her left hand- a gift I had given her when I received my first paycheck.

"No, it's not. I'm just surprised, I never thought you'd ask."

I cup her face and raise an eyebrow questioningly at her statement. Looking at my house, it seems to have more of her things than mine. She felt the need to have a potted plant on the dining table and had also urged me to get a toaster, a set of drapes for the bare windows and a couple of new formal shirts to wear to work. "Well, we do practically live together," I point out as I get off her lap and walk to our bedroom to place my tie on the hanger next to her blue cardigan in the closet.

"That's true," she mutters deep in thought as she stretches herself on the plush sofa. "So whose place are we going to live in then? Mine?"

"Absolutely not!" I splutter, recalling the tremendous amount of stairs I would have to climb after a hard day's work.

She laughs. "Fine. It doesn't matter for me because home is where ever you are."

I kiss the tip of her nose and sigh as I cover my face in her hair and take a deep breath. Her hair wafts of lavenders which seem to have a calming effect on me. The last three months have been hectic, I got a new job at an IT company. The pay was good but so was the work.

"Was work tiring today?" she asks with concern, her face softening as she rakes her slender fingers into my hair as I sigh in exhaustion into her chest.

"Yes, but I enjoy it. Plus, I have something to look forward to when I come home," I mutter huskily looking upto her face to find it bright red.

"It's so cute to see you act all innocent," I purr as I kiss the most sensitive spot on her neck, the little brown beauty mark just below her ear. She squeals in response.

"I am innocent," she argues, trying to make a straight face inspite of my incessant tickling.

"I find that hard to believe, considering how you acted last night," I mutter into her ear before nipping it and scoop her up into my arms as I head to the bedroom.

I sit and work on my laptop when the intercom rings.

"Ryan, someone is here to see you," Brian calls out and I step out of my cubicle and climb downstairs to the waiting room, puzzled.

As I open the door, my blood runs cold.

"What are you doing here? How did you find me?"

"Now, now, is that the proper way to greet your brother?" I stare at the tall man who stretches his arms out for an embrace, "Why not give me a hug? It's been so long."

I close the door and stand a good distance away from him, "What do you want from me, cousin?"

He shrugs and crosses his empty arms in mock disappointment as he sits down, making sure to not get a single crease on his suit in the process.

"I need to you come home with me." His dark blue eyes stare deeply into mine.

"Absolutely not!"

He sighs and massages his temple, "If you refuse, I'll just have to take you by force then."

"How did you find me?" I ask again, knowing very well how good my family is at sniffing out people from hiding, but I was very careful not to leave behind a trail for them to track me down.

"That is none of your concern." He says seriously before answering his phone that continues to ring incessantly.

"Yes, I found him." He pauses as he glances at me, "and he will come with me on the next flight back to Russia."

"No, I will not!" I argue as he snaps his phone shut and places it in his front pocket.

"Don't make this anymore difficult than it already is," he warns me before getting up.

"You cannot take me by force alone Alexander, if you do you'll be taking my dead body then."

He crosses me to reach for the door, "I'll take you back, and you'll come willingly, dear cousin." With that he disappears out the door. I slump against the wall as my legs give out.

"I've been found out. Now what will I do?"

***

I know my cousin very well and he is far from kind or compassionate. He wouldn't hesitate to kill. All of them are.

You wouldn't imagine how relieved I was to see Leah sitting by the doorstep, playing with a stray dog.

"You are squeezing me too much!"

She complains as I attack her with a bear hug. "I missed you," I mumble into her hair, taking in her comforting scent.

I don't know how long I can keep secrets from her, but I would prefer it this way.

"Aren't you home a bit early?" she asks, confused to find me back two hours early. "Do you feel alright?"

Considering the fact that my psychotic blood relative is in town, waiting for the chance to pounce on me and drag me along with him back to that place, then yes, I am just peachy.

"I'm alright, work got over early." The little white lie seems harmless and she doesn't question me further which I am actually thankful for.

"So what would you like for dinner?" she asks, carrying the puppy into the house.

It stares at me with a pair big brown eyes as it wags it's little golden tail, "Where did you get it from?" I ask, not really fond of dogs. I'm more of a cat person but my family hated the idea of pets and banned me from keeping one.

"The lady living downstairs- the one with 8 dogs was giving away a litter of labradors, so when she came by I didn't have the heart to say no." She explains as she places the pup on the floor and it runs towards me and proceeds to chew my socks. That's not helping me like you buster.

"You don't mind us keeping the dog right?" she asks softly as she squeezes my arm. I sigh and look down at the pup who continues to nonchalantly gnaw on my shoes now. You should really learn a few tricks from your owner.
