Ever so diligent, Magpie
arranges her misbegotten rhymes.
Long tail a tic-toc, her jaunty head cocked,
she selects shiniest baubles,
enthusiastically eyes each one,
beaks them sharply, blink-thinks,
itty-bitty blunt tongue clucking,
vocalizes again and again,
pitching higher every time.
Refining her delivery,
bird imagines herself
on the opposite end
of the caw-caw-caw,
discovers glass
lit darkly reflects
her waddle-swagger,
wings spread wide
in grandiloquent style.
Eventually getting it right,
she does a little two-step,
chitters in delight, preening
and primping all the while.
