Rise Again

Dawn rises.

Her gown falls open.

Rosy day made new

Begins afresh, eyes wide.

As though for the first time,

Bird discovers it is bird.

Sun's long fingers preen fur-robed

Creatures awake. The air,

Fresh and clean, folds intricate patterns,

Whispering. One moment replete

With geometry, the next a spinning vortex

Of tossing cloud: Pushing, lifting, enlivening.

Earth renews her face in Dawn's embrace.

Gone are struggle and strife.

Gone the matrix of desire.

Here, the children of men hold open

A door, invite day in, ready for

Their morning ablutions, their freshening.

Time passes in stillness, inexorable

Beating drum. Our heart syncopates,

Joining in a dance with sun.

And everywhere the chorus sings,

Rise, rise, do rise again.
