you appear in our garden
the way you used to years ago
many plants here stun you
with unusual structure and beauty
you begin to wonder
are we who you thought we were
perhaps we've travelled to far galaxies
and back in these intervening years
although you come

the hill expecting to encounter
the same people you left behind
we are sudden strangers
adopting an unconventional synthesis
our cells strike eccentric poses glint in sunlight
welcome to this our bizarre garden
each plant in light of absence
has grown fonder of your memory
yet remember-you-nots remain true
