Misdemeanour

Pre*tense takes you far ahead of action.

Critical element, surprise's gone

missing –you will get no satisfaction–

premise stark, moths dark to palest light drawn.

Innocent sincerest flattery these:

doff punctuality, belay a phrase,

turn it high 'round, preening, wishing to please,

shedding capitals' formality, praise.

Are not our words' meanings of more import

than means in all Earth's wide quixotic day's

scheming: One rhymes, one weeps, one chimes in sport,

one writes between white sheets such guileless plays?

Misdemeanour's minor, far less a sin

than entertaining with trust's evil twin.
