When Minx came into their psych class and sat in her seat beside him, she placed a highlighter-yellow sticky note on his desk that had a smiley face drawn in green Sharpie. He glanced over at her and she leaned toward him, a strand of hair falling from behind her ear.

"You looked down," she said softly. "Thought you could use a little cheering up."

He smiled. "Thanks."

She uncapped that same green Sharpie and began applying it to her nails as the minute bell rang.

"You weren't in school yesterday," she said. A fact instead of an accusation.

"I needed a day to myself."

She was focused on her nails, her tongue poking out the smallest bit as her eyes narrowed down at her hand.

He liked how she didn't wear makeup and never seemed to try to stand out. Everything about her was natural and real, from her yellow attire to her Sharpie-colored nails. She was like a breath of fresh air, and that was something his lungs desperately needed.

"Ah," she said now as she finished up with her pinkie. She looked over at him and smiled that sweet smile at him. "Well I'm glad you're back."
