Three

James's mood mirrored Allie's.

She observed that he was unusually moody, for two days straight now.

Allie thought it was better to let him open up to her but she couldn't take it anymore, it was very unusual for her James to be moody for so long.

"Jimmy, can I talk to you for minute?"

She asked, sitting herself on a sofa.

He stopped reading and walked to her.

"Okay, about what?"

She noticed he paid more attention to his feet.

She pulled him closer and picked him up and placed him gently on her lap.

"Tell me."

She said softly, pushing his hair away from his face.

"What?"

He frowned up at her face.

"Baby, you've been moody for two days."

She pointed out and hugged him closer. He hid his face in her neck.

"Mommy you're going to Brazil."

James whispered. Allie knew he was on the verge of tears.

"And, I'll be back after five days."

She added, laying emphasis on 'back'.

"How did you know?"

She's been thinking of a way to tell him.

"I heard you on phone on Tuesday evening."

Must have been the time Evie called her the other day.

"Baby, because daddy left doesn't mean I'll leave you."

She picked up his right hand and placed it under her left breast.

"Baby what do you feel there?"

She asked, still stroking his hair.

"Your heart beat."

His voice, muffled by the collar of her plain navy blue shirt.

"That's you James, the day I leave you this heart will stop beating and I won't be alive anymore."

She said honestly, hugging him closer.

"So you're going to have to get used to me being around 'cos I'm going nowhere."

She knew it was on the wrong side to tell James that his dad left but she couldn't lie to him, it wasn't right because she knew that one day, he'd want to meet his father and she won't be able to stop him and she'd have to tell him who his father was.

Her phone rang, it was Alexie.

Allie hesitated a bit before picking up.

"Allie! Oh my God! Sorry I was a bit busy when you called."

Allie shrugged.

"It's okay Lex. It's nice to hear from you again.

Allie tried to sound exited and failed completely.

"Me too. How's James?"

Allie held back a sigh.

Of course she knew about James, she was sure every member of the O'Malley family now saw her as a pathetic whore.

"He's great. I-"

She started but lex cut her off.

"Allie you don't have to ask, I'll gladly do it."
