"this is gonna be the best day of my life."
~American AuthorsChapter Twenty Six- The Kids Aren't Alright
Christmas had gone by successfully and safely, as did my birthday. Lola and I had to help nurse Lauren's hangover but apart from that, everyone was pretty much happy.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering what we got each other for Christmas, present wise. I had gotten the guys a CD of their favourite band, Lauren some jewellery and Lola a cute top and nail polish.
Tom had gotten me a jar filled with chocolates (he knows just how much I love them). Lauren got me a sketch book and pens. Lola bought me a pair of Vans (bless her).
What really made me smile uncontrollably though was Hunter's present. He got me an iPod and filled it with all the music that I loved. And damn, he really went overboard with it. There must've been over a thousand songs in there. Not to mention the extra cost of the iPod. When I mentioned that though he just rolled his eyes and said, "I don't know what you think my living situations are like but I'm not poor."
We argued over whether or not it was too much for a present but in the end, he just told me to 'be grateful and take the damn present graciously'. I sulked over that for a while because of how harsh he was but Tom reassured me that he was just embarrassed about giving me the present. He's as easy to read as fucking algebra for god's sake.
But today, something interesting came up. My mum had a day off today because she wanted to spend some time with me since she couldn't be with me for my birthday. She really made up for it though. We had a delicious breakfast, went out for lunch, did a bit of shopping then came home. It was while I was lounging on the couch flicking through all the channels on TV that the house phone rang.
"Yes, this is she." I heard my mother say. She could get real nasty on the phone when people called her to sell something. I could already heather voice go into ammunition mode.
There was a silence before her voice changed completely, "Oh my, that's so lovely of you!" I heard her chirp. I frowned. Who on earth could she she talking to? "Yes, yes. I will let her know right now. She will be very excited to hear this."
Wait wait, the only other she in this house is me. It must be one of my friends. Tom? No what would he offer that would make me excited? Oh god, he better not be asking me out on a date again. I was so stuck in my thoughts that I didn't realise when my mum came in making me jump.
She chuckled, "It's only me, Katie."
I nodded, "Who was it?" I asked, curiosity overwhelming me.
Her face lit up instantly, "Lola's mother had invited you to go on a trip to the Gold Coast next week, isn't that just so lovely of her?" She gushed. It was as if they were best buds already. I've never even met Lola's mum though. Nor her dad. I mean she told us that she lives with her grandparents here but I realised that she never mentioned her parents much. And now her mother was calling mine up inviting me on a trip. And probably the others as well.
"Yeah. That's awesome." I replied, I little distracted.
My mother frowned, "I thought you'd be a little happier than that."
I gave her a big smile, "I am mum. Trust me. I'm just a bit tired." I told her.
She nodded, "Right, you can go lie down and have a nap in your room if you'd like? I'll call you down when dinner's ready." She said as she pushed me towards the stairs with a reassuring smile. We were going to watch a movie but oh well. I did feel a bit tired.
