Hiro just watched it all unfold. It killed him to see you like this, but he knew you needed awhile to sink all this in. Too much had happened within the month. Too many bad things, and he knew to give you space. During the week before you trek to Bloomside, you spent your time trying to think. What to do when you get there, what to do if your father is gone, what to do if he's not, how to deal with Emila, and what to do with Hiro.Hiro had some time to think, about you mostly. He thought about how he respected your decision to pause, but no matter how hard he tried to agree, he couldn't. Three days in with no successful attempts at communication, Hiro tries again.
"(Y/N)?"
You looked up with glassy eyes. You sniffle your nose and blink, not saying a word, just signaling for him to continue.
"Are you on a vow of silence or something?" Hiro asked, when he saw the shocked look on your face he immediately took it back. You just sighed. "Sorry, are you okay?"
You part your mouth, then close it. You couldn't think of anything to say. When a response pops into your head, you decided to break the silence. "Talking distracts me from thinking." You gesture towards your already almost filled notebook. It was empty when you got it three days ago. You then closed her eyes again, and Hiro didn't read until he could hear your soft snores.
Why did I get so close to everyone? Maybe that's where I went wrong. Hiro was my first mistake, I should've never fallen for him. It's so hard to see Emila drool over him too. I should've never told her he was single. Well, he is single, if I told her otherwise it would be a lie. I should've interjected and said that I was head over heels. I did the right thing, like mother said: "Boys take up valuable time that you could spend being you and doing what you do best." I miss mom.
Mom. The word sounds so empty now. It's a memory rather than a person. Everything that happened in San Fransokyo has been awful, except one thing, life was hard but less lonely in Bloomside.
Day 2-
I made a mistake sleeping until 3pm. Watching Hiro sleep last night made me want to sleep too. He looked so serene and peaceful and adorable. The thing that ruined it was when Emila walked into the room and hopped onto bed with him. That's when things went south. My heart just shattered. But I know it would've been worse to wake up and see them asleep together. It entertained me however, because each time she tried to snuggle up close, he shoved her off. That made me smile.
I need to let him go... don't I?
Day 3-
We leave in two days and I can't believe that I have to go back. It'll be fun to reunite with (Best Friend's Name) but at the same time, we didn't leave on good terms. I miss Hiro and I feel like I should talk to him, but taking interrupts thought and Hiro looks kind of frustrated. If at me, then I can't blame him.
"(Y/N)? Is all of this true?" Hiro questions.
"I don't lie." You replied, glaring at him. Of course it's true! Does he think I'm an idiot without independent thoughts? You thought to yourself, rolling your eyes.
"You backed away?" He muttered, but it was loud enough for you to still hear it.
"And I don't plan on stepping back up. Emila is my sister, I love her and I want her to be happy." You closed your eyes again.
"She probably wants you to be happy too!" Hiro's voice grew in volume.
"That may be true, however I want her to be happy and not think I stole something of hers."
"I'm not hers." Hiro whispered to himself, owning the attitude of a five year old child.
"Pardon?" You forced. Opening your eyes to glare at Hiro again.
"I said, 'I'm not hers!' (Y/N), I've been yours since day one! How can you not see that!" His words make your heart skip a beat. How could something so forceful be one of the most romantic things you've heard?
"Hiro! I backed off, there's no trading spots now! It's too late, I need time to understand who I am and what I need to do rather than fight over you with my sister, who I've just reunited with, might I add! You need to move on from me!"
"You don't move on from those you love!" Hiro shot back, his eyes widening once the words crawled out of his lips. "I mean like. I meant to say like."
Your eyes widened as well and you took a deep breath, trying to formulate a response. "Hiro, you don't know what love is, you're fourteen."
"Right, fine. What do you know anyway?"
"I know my limits, unlike you!" You responded, finally raising your voice at him and uncrossing your legs, then bouncing off the bed.
"You wanna know what I know? I know that I don't want anyone else in this world as of now, anyone but you. You sitting around and moping makes me upset because I want to help but you've been cross with me! Please! I just want you back."
His words flipped a switch in your head. Suddenly, nothing in the world made sense, nothing but Hiro. To try to continue the conversation, to flip it back to something that the very thought of still makes your heart skip. "You love me?" you tease in a singsong voice.
"Shut up." he huffs, but you can tell he's smiling. You can read this boy like a book.
You sidle on towards the boy who now resides on his bed, facing the wall. "Hiro," you sing, "Tell me you love me." you whisper in his ear.
"No."
You wrap your arms loosely around his neck. "Face it, Hamada. You're in love with me." You whisper again.
He pivots to face you. "Maybe." he says, smirking.
"Say it." you press your lips to his cheek, then his other cheek, then his nose.
"God, (y/n), I love you." He gently places his lips onto yours.
