February 15th 5:03 A.M.
I shifted, my legs tangled up in the sheets and keeping me from turning any further.
I sighed contently, one arm resting on Corey’s chest and the other hanging off the side of the bed.
I had almost fallen back asleep when I heard my phone buzz from the table beside my bed.
Who could that be?
I opened my eyes, leaning up on my elbows and reaching for the phone.
I unlocked the screen, glancing over the text message form Drake.
“
Need you downstairs. Pronto. Queen business.
”
I bit my lower lip slightly, looking down at the screen, glowing in the dark room.
Setting the phone back down, I glanced over at Corey, who was sound asleep.
Carefully, I detangled myself from the blankets and got out of bed.
Fumbling around the room, I found some clothes to pull on, a pair of my jeans and a T-shirt of Corey’s.
I walked out into the hall, closing the bedroom door behind me as I headed down the stairs.
I found Drake in the kitchen, at the coffee pot, as was per usual.
“What’s up?” I inquired, coming to stand by the island.
A sigh shifted through him, as he poured two cups of coffee. “Ugh, I hate talking about things like this. It’s such a drag.”
“…About what things?” I kept my gaze on him, confused and waiting for him to elaborate.
“Death.” He stated.
“Um…”
He came over, setting down a mug before me and taking a seat across from me at the island.
“Sit down.” He gestured.
“Drake, what’s going on?” I slid onto a stool, watching him with apprehension.
“We’ve been informed by the police that there’s been a murder.”
“…And?” I prompted, grabbing the mug of coffee and cradling it in my hands.
I had a bad feeling, though it might be because for once Drake was actually somewhat serious and that was…bad.
“And the victim died from blood loss.”
I inclined my head, urging him to go on.
“…Because their blood was drained from a bite mark below their collarbone.”
A cold chill ran down my spine.
“Are-are you saying a vampire did this?”
“No human is capable of it.” He stated simply, taking a drink from his mug.
“But all the vampires are contained.” I argued.
“Are they?” He looked at me.
“I-…” I trailed off, not able to answer.
“Or are they just really good at hiding?”
I glanced down, his words making my stomach flip.
“When did this happen?”
“The body was discovered less than an hour ago. It was carelessly left out back of a club in the next town over, Lursville, whoever did it wasn’t looking to hide it. It was in plain view; some guys found it when they went out back to smoke.”
