Chapter Nine

After David drove me home and I said goodnight to him, I went straight to my room for bed. Of course I didn't fall asleep for hours after, mainly because my phone went off a few times. I didn't notice who called until the next morning when I turned my phone on again.

Apparently I had one missed call from David and eleven from Harlow. I chose to call David back first, hoping he'd make me feel better since I still felt horrible about fighting with Mason.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, I just wanted to see if you're feeling any better," David said.

I smiled at his concerned tone. "Yeah, I am feeling better. I think I'll just take it easy this weekend, though," I told him. I didn't feel like going out this weekend, and I wanted him to know I wasn't just blowing him off.

"Of course, I understand. Let me know if you need anything, alright?"

My smile grew. "Will do, and thanks for checking on me."

"Sure thing. I'll text you later," he said. I said goodbye and hung up the phone before dialing Harlow's number next.

"Finally, you called back!" she answered.

"What's up?" I asked, playing with a loose string on my shirt.

"What's up? What's up? Don't you 'what's up' me, missy! You tell me what the heck happened last night!" she shouted, making me wince and hold the phone away from my ear.

I sighed into the phone. "Harlow, I really don't—"

"No! I get that you didn't want to tell me at the club, but I've been calling you nonstop since then! I was about to drive my butt to your house!"

"Fine! Geez, I'll tell you. I got into a fight with your brother."

She paused. "That's it? Kody, it's not the first time you've fought with my brother."

"I know, it's just that his words really hurt this time. He implied that I was a slut and said I shouldn't tell him who to invite or not invite to places we go," I told her.

"What? He called you a slut?"

"No, he implied it. But you know what? I get where he's coming from, oddly enough."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, our whole argument started because he invited Zack last night—"

"He did?" she interrupted.

"Yes, now let me finish!"

"Sorry, I'm listening," she said. I could picture her smiling sheepishly at me.

"Anyway, when I confronted him about inviting Zack, he started to get angry because he couldn't keep track of my exes, which were most of his friends as he pointed out. I get why he implied that I was a slut because he was right about how I've gone out with a lot of his friends, even though I haven't slept with them. Then again, who knows what those guys are saying behind my back," I said.

"They don't say anything because Mason and Gage make sure they don't...or Mason does, at least," she added.

"I guess, but I shouldn't have said anything to him in the first place about who he should or shouldn't invite. I know they're his friends, so from now on I won't say anything to Mason about my exes."

"Kody," Harlow started, sighing. "You know he didn't mean it. I understand that you may think that it's partially true or whatever, but it's definitely not. And Mason feels bad about the fight, believe me. When I gave him your message about you being sorry and that he was right, he looked really sad and regretful," she admitted.
