its long af

luke didn't think frosting was this sticky — jesus — can it be washed off? — he was asking because it was covering his hands.
it was his 17th birthday — and only calum came, for ten minutes, before saying that ashton "had an emergency," but it was obvious he just didn't wanna be there to begin with
he had invited so many people — so many rsvps of yes, and i can't wait, but he found out later that they were all just pranking him —
that's why he slammed his hands into his cake.

he was crying on the couch, his forehead and cheek now smeared with frosting that he had tasted five times to make sure it was perfect — all for nothing
—  and he was really sensitive, he wasn't a crybaby but he just got hurt easily, so when he saw all the posts of who he invited at his brother jack's party he wanted to crawl into his bed and die.
jack was always the popular one — the cool older guy that stayed in town even after he moved out — because he was 22 and had alcohol and what did luke have? — nothing.

he was about to call his parents to tell them that they could come back to the house — that there was nobody to leave alone — but a knock was on the door.
and maybe it was the people to see him and point and cackle — drunkenly shouting insults or laughs — but he stood slowly anyway and padded over, cake and tears still on his cheeks when he opened the door.
'hey, lukey.'
it was michael — goddammit — of course it was michael, he was the shit of the school, of course he came to laugh, right?
'hey.' he whispered, keeping his face down and michael furrowed his eyebrows when he couldn't see little baby blues staring innocently back at him like usual
'am i too late? i'm sorry i am at all, coach wouldn't get off my back because i kept messing up the drill so he made me stay after and--'
'what?' he whispered, michael actually seeing his eyes this time — though watery — and he cooed
'hey.' he whispered sadly 'what happened babe?' he whispered, stepping in and closing the door, looking him up and down to make sure he was okay
'y-you came for..'
michael furrowed his eyebrows as he trailed off
'did you accidentally give me an invitation by mistake? was i not supposed to be invited?'
'no, no! y-you were.'
'okay..good. so..why wouldn't i come?'
the house was too quiet — michael picked up on and he finally understood before luke could talk again
'nobody else did.' he whispered, his eyes going to the floor as his cheeks blushed and his eyes started watering again and michael huffed
'pricks.' he mumbled, shaking his head and he set his gift down on the table next to the door so he could pull the cake covered boy in his arms
'i'm sorry luke.' he whispered, kissing his hair 'you deserve better than those pricks.'
luke nuzzled against his jacket and sniffled pathetically — wanting to memorize his smell
'well, more cake for us huh?'
'i kinda smashed it.'
'even better.' he grinned

it was michael who threw the first of the frosting — and luke gasped — looking at that smirk stretched across his face.
'oh no you didn't.'
'oh yes i did.'
luke grabbed a handful and threw it back, nailing him right in the stomach and luke giggled and squealed when michael started to chase him, taking two handfuls of cake with him
'c'mere you little shit!!'
luke was running and laughing and so was michael, who finally captured him and rubbed cake all over his arms and face and hair and luke was giggling and michael was pressing kisses all over his neck, blowing raspberries into him and he squealed — escaping his grip and taking off again, michael's chest bursting in fondness and butterflies.

it was past midnight and they were on the couch, luke laying on top of him
'thanks for coming michael.' he whispered, tracing his tattoos and michael grinned
'no place i'd rather be.'
and then he kissed him — and oh god — he tasted like frosting.

michael knew he'd get yelled for it a long time later — but he was glad those kids didn't come to his party.
