Chapter 16

October 5th

I shuffle in my bed groaning at the sun beaming on my face through the window. I huff and throw the covers off my body and go take a shower.

Letting the water run down my body, I think about the past weeks. I've had a good time with Emma and Jace. Even Chelsea and I have gotten close, when she's been here to help with Emma. I could never imagine my life being this nice. I've always been in horrible places. My mother was always so horrible to me, even before the accident with David and Natalie happened. I never felt so...cared about. The group comes by every now and again. Jace finally got up the courage to tell them all about Emma, which was a very big accomplishment.

I get out of the shower and dry myself off. Wrap the towel around my body and head back to my bedroom.

"Woah." I hear and look up to see Jace sitting on my bed.

"Oh my God! Get out!" I yell trying to cover myself up more.

He smirks and leaves the room, telling me to hurry. I pick out a pair of skinny jeans, a tank top, thick cardigan, and my brown boots that stop just a little below the knees. I straighten my hair and put on some very little makeup. Grabbing my bag, I head out my door to talk to Jace.

I find him sitting on the couch playing with Emma. "Hey, what'd you need?"

"Oh, I got what I needed for the day." He smirks and winks at me. I roll my eyes and go to the kitchen to get some breakfast.

"I'm going to hang out with the girls today. Is that okay?" I ask. I'm not sure if he needs a babysitter for Emma.

"Okay, I'm letting Emma stay with Trent and Chelsea for the night anyways." He replies.

Around an hour later, Layla and Camryn are picking me up. I get in Camryn's jeep and say my hellos.

"We're going to the mall!" Layla informs me excitedly. I nod and we go to the mall.

Layla makes me try on a ton of dresses. Saying I need the perfect dress since it's my birthday.

"YES!!" Both Layla and Camryn exclaim at the next dress I try on. I love it. It's a simple black with an open back dress. Not too casual and not too formal.

I nod in agreement and twirl myself around.

Finally, after tons of dresses, shoes, and accessories, we're leaving. The time is ticking close to 5 o'clock, so the girls and I decide to stop at a restaurant for a little dinner.

Eating slowly, I can't help but to think about Chase. We've went out a few times and each time I've enjoyed myself immensely. I like him a lot and he seems to feel the same about me. But, one the other hand, he hasn't even bothered to call me. On our last date, we told each other personal things about ourselves, likes and dislikes. Even our birthdates. I know he couldn't have forgotten in a matter of four days.

"Come on! We're gonna be late!" Layla, all but screams in my ear, making me snap out of my thoughts.

"Late for what?" I huff as they both push me out of the restaurants warmth. I quickly get in the car, confused as ever.

We pull up at Jace's house and they quickly usher me inside. We get up to my room and the place me in the chair at my vanity. Putting makeup on my face and curling my hair.

"Put this on." Layla says, throwing me my dress and shoes, pushing me in the bathroom. I do as I'm told and Slip into the dress and black heels I picked to match.

"What the hell are we doing?" I ask coming out of the bathroom dressed.

"Let's go!" Layla yells, grabbing my hand and pulling me into the hallway. I run with them down the stairs, trying not to bust my ass in these heels. We jump back in the car and drive another 30 minutes back into town.

I look out the window to see we've pulled into the parking lot of a huge hotel. Layla and Camryn get out of the car and I do the same. I look around the front of the huge hotel. It's absolutely gorgeous.

"AAHH." Suddenly a burlap bag is over my head. Are my friends seriously kidnappers? What the hell is going on?

"Calm down. We just don't want to ruin the surprise." I hear Layla laugh. She grabs my arm and leads me up some stairs. I hear doors open and we walk in. It's quiet, really quiet.

"SURPRISE!" I take off the bag to see all of my friends and a few people I don't know. I laugh and thank the girls.
