Sometimes it looks like there's no way out. Things seem too far-gone, too overwhelming. I've been there. You might be there now, walking the floors and wondering, "How in the world did I end up here?"
That's how it was for Jairus. His little girl was dying, and his world came crashing down. The house was packed with aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors, everyone expecting the worst. Then Jairus did something crazy. He left the house. It was risky. What if his baby girl breathed her last while he was gone? How much worse would that be? What would his family say?
As a dad, I believe Jairus risked it all for just one chance. Instead of walking the floors, he ran to Jesus and fell at His feet. Broken heart and all, he had faith enough to say, "My little girl is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live" (Mark 5:23 NIV).
Jesus agreed, but the girl died before He reached her. Jairus was crushed. What dad wouldn't be? Jesus wasn't finished yet, so he went to the house. The atmosphere was thick with death and sorrow, but Jesus cut right through it. "Why all this commotion and wailing?" He asked. "The child is not dead but asleep" (Mark 5:39 NIV).
The mourners laughed. The Giver of Life had come, but their minds were made up: "It's too late. The situation's too far gone." So Jesus cleared the room. The death-watchers had to go. He took the girl's hand and spoke. Immediately, she got on her feet.
You might not be dealing with matters of life and death. But even if you are, Jesus isn't finished yet. What's the atmosphere like? How do you see the situation? Do you believe it can change? Are you gathering the mourners around you, or clearing the room so Life can come in? Because when He's involved, there's a chance for a miracle.
