So much of how we live is wrapped up in what we see, and what we don't. What we expect of life and even of God depends upon what our spiritual eyes are doing.
Spoiler alert: mine are still developing! But God is gracious. The more His goodness comes into focus, the better I understand His love and His desire to keep me. When I feel frayed or wrung out, He makes His strength mine. When I think I'm out of my league, He opens doors and rolls out His favor, and I think I'm doing all right, He shows me how He's kept me from hurting myself and others.
The world looks different when God opens your eyes. Because you have hope, you can ride out life's storms. When His love sheds light on your true self-worth, chains break and fear heads for the exit. And the more you see Him, the more you see as He sees.
A few years ago, we went to L.A. for the GRAMMY Awards®. On a free day, God arranged a sidewalk conversation with a young man who'd seen me on TV during a tough season in his life. That conversation was a gift. The GRAMMYS® were amazing, but I realized that I was in L.A. for that young man. It just took an award nomination to get me there!
When God opens your eyes, you can't help but say, "Father, I love and praise You for all You have done. You are my shield, my strength, and the lifter of my head. You are all good, all the time. Thank You for revealing Your greatness to me, and showing me what I should and should not fear, so that I would not touch unrighteousness in any form. Thank You for opening up my eyes to see You. I love You more than I can say."
