|After the Festival in Cannes 2016|

After their happy encounter in Cannes, Robert and Kristen had returned in California, safe and sound, excited that they were friends again, after all they had been through. They had reunited finally, after years of being separated, of trying to avoid each other. The two friends really needed to catch up a lot. So that was why one early morning, she had invited him over for a coffee and a little chat. She had even baked him some brownies. He loved her brownies.

"So," Kristen asked, when they sat down comfortably in the living room. "What's up?"

Robert shrugged. "Nothing much."

Silence followed. She would either look up and be too shy to say something, or would nervously sip from her drink, waiting for him to say something. He, from embarrassment, could not speak up. Just like the days they had had a massive crush on each other. So many times Robert had proposed marriage to Kristen on the set of Twilight, and yet she would reject him. They both missed those days.

She wasn't ready when he asked "What about you?". What could she say? He already knew about her accomplishments. Her hands shivered. The actress could feel them sweating. Why was she so nervous around her friend? She never was.

"Kristen?"

His voice rang in his ears. She tensed. "Uhm," she tried to say, but it came like a inarticulate sound. He, of course, knowing her so well, comprehended that something was very wrong. What was it that time? Had she been hurt? Had anyone offended her with anything?

"Well, you see ..." , Kristen spoke. Robert looked at her with serious eyes.

"Kristen," he held her hand, "You can tell me anything," and smiled reassuringly. She still couldn't look up to his eyes. She was staring at his nose instead. And he could tell. He wasn't that stupid.

The actress looked down again.

"S-she broke up with me."

The actor did not expect his colleague to say that. He thought Stéphanie was giving her everything, that she was making his friend happy. But then again, there was no trace of miss Sokolinski at Cannes. A sign that something had happened. Maybe they just weren't meant to be.

"Did she ...?" , he asked, meaning if Stéphanie had cheated. The French singer hadn't. She had used our heroine for fame.

Kristen started crying in Robert's arms. He couldn't believe that Stéphanie had used his first love in such a nasty way. Why? Why always her? Kristen was always the one who got hurt. Every time. One and the same. When would the awaited so long happy end come?

He was rubbing her back gently and stroking her hair, attempting to make her feel better. It seemed to be working, because her cries were growing less by the minute. Even when her face was red and puffy from crying, she was angel-like for him. Perfection itself.

They were gazing in each other's eyes. That was when she decided to tell him something that had been on her mind for a while:

"I'd love to kiss you on the lips, but you're engaged and I'm not a home wrecker," she confessed. The cheating scandal back in 2012 had fooled everyone that she was one.

He chuckled. "You're far from a home wrecker, Kristen Jaymes."

"Don't go all Augustus Waters on me, Mr!" , she threatened him playfully and they both laughed. Just like the good ole times. Just like how it was supposed to be, but it never was.
