File 8: Even more 'What if's'

"(Y/A), I have noticed you have been slightly under the weather lately. What is wrong?"

"Nothing, I've just been thinking about a lot of things."

"What kind of things?"

"L, mostly"

Obviously, a lie.

"I see, I haven't heard back from him either."

"He must be busy working on the Kira case, he doesn't have time to meet up with a persistent fangirl."

You sighed and dropped down on the couch. 

"I guess I'll always get a new chance to meet with him as long as the Kira investigation is still going on."

"Yes, that is true."

Ryuzaki went back to his pc screens and silence soon followed. Misa was at work together with Matsuda so there really was nothing to do in this huge building. Seeing as you had nothing to do anyway, you went upstairs to take a nap.

After a nap of little over an hour, you went back downstairs to see everyone huddled up around Ryuzaki. Ryuzaki turned to everyone and said;

"Matsuda, you idiot."

Matsuda? You walked towards them and asked; 

"Who's Matsuda?"

Everyone turned their heads towards you, well, everyone except Ryuzaki.

"Matsuda is Matsui, he was told to give you a fake name to make sure he wouldn't be killed by you up you were Kira, just like everyone is this room, except for Yagami-san and Light-kun, seeing as you already know their names."

"I see, and why is Matsuda an idiot, apart from the obvious."

"You'll figure it out soon enough."

He grabbed his phone and called someone.

"Yo, Matsui. It's me Asahi. Been a while."

He sounded like a different person,

"It doesn't sound like you're out. You home already?"

Another short silence followed.

"Are you alone now?"

Another silence. Ryuzaki moved the phone away from his face and said.

"Amane Misa is somewhere else. Matsuda is alone."

He started talking through the phone again

"Wanna go out drinking? What? Don't tell me your wallets in a pinch again?"

He stressed the word 'pinch'.

"Matsuda's in a lot of trouble. Oh well, I'll ask you out some other time. See ya."

Light got his phone out and called Misa. He got her voicemail and left a message. Then everyone started debating about what we should do now. Ryuzaki made a joke(?) about Matsuda dying and proving that Yotsuba has something to do with Kira.

After a short wait Light got a call from Misa. She was heading to the Yotsuba offices.
In between the chaos and problems, you didn't really have anything to do, so you made yourself comfortable on the couch, trying to fall asleep. Everyone from the task force was somewhere else, you had no idea where. Probably not far though seeing as the were still in trouble with Matsuda. Only Light and Ryuzaki, who were still working on something, were still in the main room. Ryuzaki broke the totally not awkward silence.

"(Y/N), do you think Light is Kira?"

You didn't answer. Instead you whispered;

"Weird, I can't seem to find a comfortable position to lie in."

Light decided to join the conversation and said;

"Try laying on your stomach, it's surprisingly comfortable."

You moved around with your face now on the pillow. You moved your face slightly and said;

"Yes, this I way better, thank you. And, no, I don't think Light is Kira. Or, at least, I don't want to think so."

The position really was better. Lying was a lot easier. As expected from soon to be Kira.

"I see."

Ryuzaki answered your previous statement.

"Then,"

He continued, turning his chair around to face you.

"What would you do if you knew with 100% certainty that he was Kira?"

"I don't know, cry myself to sleep seems like a good option."

"Then,"

Light followed.

"What if Ryuzaki ends up being L?"

You felt your cheeks colour at the thought of Ryuzaki being L. You stuffed your face into the pillow and answered his question.

"C-Cry myself to sleep...?"

"What if Light is proven to be L?"

Ryuzaki asked.

Your head moved up again and you almost burst out in laughter.

"T-This guy? That can't even remember why we became friends? The chance of Ryuzaki being Kira is probably bigger!"

You noticed Ryuzaki's mouth creep into a little smile, as he turned around and faced the monitors again.

"Well, wouldn't that be a surprising outcome of events."
