asking for it, a slam poem.

t/w: this poem talks about sexual assault.

you've seen the headlines of the girl in the little red dress and the commentary of how that meant she wanted to have sex.

but something doesn't add up here,
since when does clothing have anything to do with consent?

since when does a woman feeling confident in her body and wearing whatever she wants mean people can do whatever they want with her?

if she was asking for it,
you would know,
because she would tell you.

a woman's clothing situation cannot be used to defend this violation.

so maybe stop trying to blame the victim and start trying to find who did it.

if you think victim shaming will stop sexual assault, you are the reason these victims are too scared to tell their story,
the reason these perpetrators are still free,
doing whatever they want to people.

all because you believe a little red dress meant she wanted to have physical and emotional damage, lawyer bills, unwanted publicity, and fear that will live with her for years.

it doesn't make much sense when you look at it that way, does it?
