It Just Gets Worse

Eyes make out glimpses of something in the darkness. A figure lurks in the dark as I peer over my bedpost. A face can almost be seen in the dark corner of my room. The image makes me wrap my weighted comforter tighter around me. The grip makes my knuckles turn white and the hair on the back of my neck stand up. A blurred figure rises from the darkness. Cries fly across the room as a hundred voices shriek at me. Telling me to kill, before they kill me.

The shouts tell me they're always watching, disapproving.

Yesterday, the voices told me someone would die if I didn't listen to them. I pray the Darkness leaves soon. I'm tired of pulling up the blankets and hiding. The Darkness has been summoning me again.

"Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill," the Darkness chants.

"Kill, or we'll kill for you."

"You can't run forever, Dana," declares Darkness reaching its gray skinny arms toward me.
