"Come to the nature rally."

People all day had been receiving the same message. And now, you were too. "Please come to the nature rally."

"Wall-E?" You grabbed the boy, pulling him back by his wrist before he could continue speeding around to give people the flyers.

"Hey, (Y/N)." He smiled shyly, which was why you were so surprised he was handing all of this out with his shy personality.

"What's all this?" You pointed to the flyer he had handed you, studying your best friend's face. He'd never been the group organizing kind of guy, so it was all kind of shocking.

"The Nature Rally." He pointed to a giant tree pictured on the green paper. "They're going to chop down the giant tree in the park."

You frowned. "What? Why? That tree has been there... Forever."

"I know. They decided they need a new apartment complex. But I think they can pick another spot. That tree provides a home for a lot of animals in the park. I can't let them get rid of it."

You nodded at him in understanding. Wall-E had always been there for you whenever you needed him. He supported you. You could tell this was important to him, so you were going to support him this time. "I'll be there."

When you got to the park, you noticed a lot of families with their kids were there protesting. But you also noticed a few of your friends from school were there, too.

"Save the park!" Eve shouted from her spot next to Wall-E. Meanwhile, he just stood there quietly. If there was any way to describe them in a protest, he was Martin Luther King Jr., and Eve was Malcolm X.

You took your spot next to him, and he shot you a small smile. You looked into his eyes to see they were full of hope, anticipation, and fear. After all, he'd never been in a protest before, much less led one.

Everyone booed as the construction equipment rolled into view, crushing the grass beneath it, and leaving tire prints in the soil.

A bulldozer stopped right in front of the crowd, and a strapping man who looked to be in his early thirties hopped out. "Hello, everyone. I am the man who is in charge of seeing that this apartment complex is built."

Everyone started yelling, but Wall-E raised his hand for them to be quiet, and they silenced themselves.

"My name is Otto Pylat," he introduced himself. (Anyone see what I did there? No? Okay.)
"I am the CEO of Axiom. We are here to provide you with a better today, a better tomorrow, and a better future."

"Now," he continued with a small chuckle. "I understand you like the park. But you should know that we are building a new one just down the street. You can play there."

"This isn't just about the park," Eve spoke up.

Wall-E nodded, stepping forward. "Hi." He stuck his hand out and the CEO shook it. "I'm Walter Elias, but my friends call me Wall-E. I organized this protest. And I have to say, Eva's right."

"It's Eve," she corrected.

"Sorry," he apologized. "She's right. It's not just about the park. Sure, these kids love playing here. I used to love playing here. But it's mostly about this tree."

The CEO looked behind him at the giant tree. "I am sorry. I do not understand. What is so special about a tree?" He tilted his head to the side.

"It's just special. To me. To my friends. To all of us. It's where the birds and squirrels live."
