Chapter 9

The next morning was the hardest

I walked out of my room in my panties and oversized shirt, the thing I would usually wear if I didn’t have company

In my opinion, I didn’t

Reece was standing in the kitchen when I entered; biting into a Weet-Bix with a layer of Butter spread on top

I poured the already boiled water into my coffee cup and proceeded to make my coffee, ignoring the muttering behind me

“She has to do this to me, she’s pretending I don’t exist and yet I’m standing here staring at her ass, god I’m such a loser” I heard a crunch of Weet-Bix and turned to read the paper on the island

He sighed, stepping towards

I continued to read the paper

A plate was set in front of me and his hand skimmed over my back “Eat something”

He wandered off into the living room, leaving me with a plate of warm eggs and toast

I frowned and bit into the toast

He still cared about me, after everything I said to him last night, he still cared and it was ridiculous

Reece shouldn’t care about me, he just shouldn’t, He lived in Adelaide, I lived in Sydney, it was better for a relationship than him still living in England but it was still a while away

He was famous; I was a city girl working in a CD store, there was enough fame going around on the TV and newspapers these days to know that Relationships hardly ever worked under the public eye and with that came the touring and the distance and the rumors, you needed trust for relationships like that

I didn’t have that trust

I finished breakfast the same time I finished flicking through the newspaper

My phone rang

HANGOVER! You’ll have to work the shop alone today, sorry – Danny x

I groaned and trudged down the hall to get dressed, passing a silent Reece on the lounge

Throwing on an old pair of shorts and shirt I grabbed my slip on shoes and grabbed my bag before heading back out

“Work?” asked Reece

“Mhmm” I muttered, pulling out my hair tie and ruffling my hair, checking myself in the mirror on the hall wall as I passed quickly

“I’m sorry” Reece called as I opened the door, making me freeze “I didn’t mean to ruin things, I’m really sorry”

I shook my head and slammed the door behind me as I left

He wasn’t sorry and even if he was, I doubt he knew exactly what he was sorry for

Work was slow as per usual; I was able to close for about 5 minutes to grab lunch sometime after 2

I was sitting down, eating at a table in the back on my own when a woman and 2 men came and sat down opposite me

The woman was smiling like a lunatic; she had bright red lip stick, dark eye make-up, large amount of cover up, brown curly hair and big hazel eyes

“Can I help you?” I asked, swallowing some of my burger

“I’m Ann Stine, reporter for Australian Gossip” she smiled “I was wondering if we could ask you some questions”

I frowned sipping at my coke “About?”
