Chapter 30
“He’s so adorable” smiled Danny as he put the records into order on the glass counter I knew so well
I sighed and rested against his shoulder “He is isn’t he”
We stared at little Blue on the carpet floor of the closed shop, in his car seat on a thick mattress blanket, surrounded by squishy, noisy, colorful toys
He gurgled a laugh as he threw the little blue and white zebra toy onto the floor and chewed on the plastic ring attached to the seat handle
I giggled and raced over to him, swiping a finger over his soft baby cheek
He was a month old now, 5 weeks and still so tiny
Abbey came back through the door and handed me his bottle she had raced to get from the car
“Hold this while I get him out” she smiled as I took the bottle
Abbey unbuckled him from his seat and cradled him against her chest carefully as she stood from her crouched position
“Hey Blue” I smiled at him over Abbey shoulder
She rolled her eyes and took the bottle back from me “Will you call him Edan that is his name”
I pouted “Fine”
Edan sucked on the flimsy plastic top of the bottle and drank in the formula – Abbey had decided against breast feeding – before removing his tiny mouth and burping a small, baby burp and attaching his mouth back to the bottle
“Even his burp is annoyingly cute” laughed Danny, slinging his arms around my shoulder and smiling at me
I smiled back and rested my head against his chest
Danny had been protective of me ever since I had gotten back from Adelaide, he stayed with me at my apartment every so often to make sure I didn’t drink myself away or do anything stupid
I would classify last night as stupid
“Don’t beat yourself up about it” he whispered in my ear, reading my thought “It was one night, you were drunk, just let it go”
I nodded and smiled at mother and son as she placed him over her shoulder and burped him
“I can’t believe I have a nephew” I grinned, jumping slightly in Danny’s arms
He laughed “And to some degree I am an Uncle”
Abbey smiled and tweaked his cheek “You’re a direct uncle honey”
Danny smiled “Thanks Abbey”
Danny was a Kali just as I was a Thomas
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I slipped out of Danny’s arms to check it behind the counter
