"Theodore Robertson. Can I see him please?"

"I'm sorry ma'am, you have to wait. Please sit down and someone will come out shortly."

I bang my hand on the counter but the lady ignores me, answering the phone.

"This is ridiculous, why won't someone tell me what's going on", I say, pacing back and forth through Mercy Hospital.

My head was pounding and I'm pretty sure I never stopped crying from the soccer field here.

"Isa, you have to stay calm okay."

Hazel tries to hold my arm but I shake my head.

"No, we've been here for 3 hours and no one can tell us what's wrong. I just- I need to know if he's okay. I need him to be okay. I need him. I-why won't they tell me something!"

Her face is full of concern as she watches me hyperventilate but I couldn't stop the voices telling me that there's something wrong with him.

What if this morning was the last time I see him smile?

I shook the thought out of my head, about to pace again when Hazel grabs me, holding me in front of her.

"You need to breathe okay. He's going to be okay. Just breathe. The doctor is doing everything they can and they'll come out and update us. We have to let them do their work."

I take a deep breath, sitting down.

"How long until we see Theo?"

Kalani asks and I lift her, placing her on my lap, "Soon sweetheart. We just got to hope for the best."

I try to smile to reassure her but apparently I wasn't, "Don't cry Izzy, I'm sure he's fine", Kalani says, wiping my face with her small hands.

"Thanks, Lani. Why don't you play with Mateo for a bit, okay?"

She grins and runs around the corner to where everyone else was waiting.

I wish I could be like Kalani, not able to understand the extent of what was happening, maybe then this pain would stop.

The ER doors open and it's my parents along with Theo's.

"Is there an update? Is he okay? What happened?"

Thalia rushes out to Hazel and when she sees me, she stops in her tracks.

"Oh Isa", I stand up to meet her and she comes towards me, hugging me tightly.

"Thank you for being here, it means a lot. He's strong. He'll get through this."

She pushes my hair behind my ear and I nod.

"They haven't told us anything. It happened so suddenly. A member from the other team pushed him from behind while he was running, he tripped over the ball, and the impact caused him to fall forward and hit the grass. He was- he was unconscious when they put him in the car and his leg is twisted."

She holds her hand against her mouth, sitting down slowly.

"What kind of cruel person would want to hurt my boy? He doesn't deserve this."

Theo's dad comes and rubs her back and although his face showed no emotions, I knew how worried he was about their son.

"Baby girl, come here", my mom says hugging me and my dad does the same.

"You all been here for hours. Let me see if I can get food or something to drink for y'all."

My dad says and my mom nods in agreement.
