Levi's POV:
The next day Eren and I left his apartment early in the morning. Eren told me he wanted to walk to see his mother. He had brought a present with him, it was wrapped up in blue paper. Very neatly, even to my standards.
I needed to do something today as well, I too had brought along something but it was more formal.
It was a fake rose, its color bright yellow, it was tucked inside my coat safely.
I needed to visit my own mother today, her place residing in a bed. I visited her once a week...secretly. I hardly told anyone, the only other person who knew was Erwin.
Eren and I walked quickly, the snow falling softly on the ground around us with barely any wind. Each step felt sad.
Eren's usually bright smile was replaced with a stoic expression, his eyes looked tired and sad. He held the present he had in his hands close to himself as he turned a corner then another, with me following behind me faithfully.
I didn't speak, I felt like it would shatter something now.
Finally Eren stopped, his boots coated in snow and his hair messy from the soft wind. I looked where he was looking and a frown appeared on my face.
We were standing in front of a graveyard, rows of flower laden stones stretched out in front of us. Eren took a deep breath, stepping forward and walking through the stones.
His hair covered his eyes as he looked for the one stone in particular.
I grabbed Eren's hand and pulled him closer to me, not really looking at him. We kept walking, soon stopping in front of a small stone.
Eren let go of my hand and faced the grave fully, bending down and placing the present on the grave.
"Merry Christmas mum..." Eren whispered, no tears were seen. He was a cold mass of pain right now, his voice shaking slightly.
He stood up and looked away. My own eyes were trained on the ground, reading the name in front of me.
"Carla Jeager - Loving mother of Eren Jeager and Mikasa Ackerman, wife to late Grisha Jeager."
I wanted to say something, anything to help ease the pain that Eren was feeling...but I had no words.
I never knew how much Eren was hiding, he was so strong.
I knew what he felt like, and I still had no idea what to say.
I'm sorry?
For what, not knowing?
I turned to Eren and pulled his arm, he looked at me as I wrapped my arms around him tightly. I had no words, so I would show him.
"Thank you" I whispered to him, I looked up into his eyes intently.
"For what?" Eren said, his voice was still dull but held more..hope when he spoke.
"Sharing this with me...I myself was going to visit my family but not the same way" I said hoarsely, pulling away from Eren.
"No no..I want to meet your family Levi!" Eren said, his voice sounding happier. I looked at the ground and stepped past Eren.
"Come on then"
--
We made it to the place. We stood in front of a large building, its tall brown walls stretching to the sky with a dull aura.
"Levi...why are we at the hospital?" Eren questioned, I didn't answer as I walked through the doors of the oh so familiar place.
This wasn't the same hospital Armin was at...this was a long recovery place. A place where the recovering or hopeless looking for hope go.
