"Shhh baby. Sleep now." Buck cooed.
You shook your head.
"Please doll. You need to sleep it's been a long day. You're just hurting yourself."
"I'm scared."
"Of what?"
"I'll see him. I'll see him if I close my eyes. I don't want to."
"It'll be okay. He's gone."
"That's the problem!" You shot up. "He didn't deserve to die."
"He did it to himself Penn." Bucky said sympathetically.
"Because of me. I hurt him."
"You don't know that."
You shrugged,"You're right. But I have a pretty good guess. I suppose I would know, if he was still alive."
Bucky frustratedly ran a hand through his hair. "You can't do this to yourself doll. You're going to make yourself sick." He took your hand and kissed it,"Please. Just sleep. I'll be right here this whole time."
You laid your head on his lap and tried to think of something else.
Anything else.
You closed your eyes and began drifting to sleep.
*One week later*
"Nothing from Steve?" You asked Bucky who was sitting at the kitchen table staring at his phone.
He shook his head.
"He should have called by now. This isn't like him."
"Just give it some more time."
He lightly slammed his hand on the table.
You recoiled.
"I've been giving it 'some more time' for over a week."
He sighed and stood walking over to you.
"I'm sorry doll." He leaned down and kissed your forehead. "I'm just so worried. He could be hurt."
"I know. I'm worried too but I don't know what we can do."
"Well. I know what I can do." He pulled away. "I'm going to China."
You shook your head,"Like hell you are."
He sighed,"Doll, please."
"Please nothing Bucky. How do you even think you're going to get to China? You won't even be able to board a plane. Or walk through a metal detector for that matter."
He looked annoyed but he didn't say anything.
"What are you going to do? Take a boat? That'll take forever. Who knows what'll happen when you finally reach China? It could be a trap! Maybe they want you in China. They could be waiting for you right now."
"Well they won't have to wait for long."
Tears brimmed your eyes,"Bucky please."
"He could be in trouble Penelope. Steve would do anything for me. I have to try."
You sniffled and looked away.
He took your face in his hands and lifted it.
"It'll be okay doll. I'll be back. Steve will be back. We'll all be safe."
