I stared at him incredulously; “What do you mean being attacked? Who could possibly attack the club?”
If it was possible his expression became even stormier, “Hunters.”
He didn’t have to say any more, I was already moving. Jamie and Beatrice were hot on my heels, but I didn’t waste time arguing. I knew there was no way he would ever agree to stay behind. As we burst onto the main street and kept moving I began to slightly regret only ever bothering to carry a small single knife; if it had Felix this concerned then it had to be bad. My voice was tense;
“How many?”
“About 50 I think, it was difficult to tell.”
“Are they inside?”
“Yes, came in through the back. They must have quietly killed security and snuck in. Nobody noticed anything until they were already in the main room… they took a lot of people by surprise.”
I grimaced, hoping that the situation had improved by the time we arrived. On rounding the corner I was relieved to see that the amount of people outside had decreased significantly, although to my irritation there were still a few humans milling around trying to find out what was happening. That wasn’t good, we didn’t need any witnesses. I was so focused on the scene in front of me that I was almost taken off guard when someone grabbed my arm. It took me a second to recognize the tearful face of one of the girls who I had mocked when we first entered the club. There was no trace of her friend, the more aggressive one. Her voice was desperate;
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing you should concern yourself with.”
“But my friends in there!”
My eyes narrowed; “I thought I told you to go home.”
“We were going to! And then she met some guy-“she broke off as her eyes focused on Felix who was still standing behind me, “You! I said I wanted to go home but then she met you and you took her inside!”
I heard a low aggressive growl rumble from his direction but when I glanced back he had on his signature smirk in spite of the situation, he shrugged; “she begged, I… listened.”
I glared at him, “I bet you did more than that. “ His smirk only increased, making my temper rise; “and you just left her in there? Alone?” the coward, he probably ran at the first sight of trouble. He raised an eyebrow;
“So?”
“So! You- you- “I struggled to think of a word bad enough to describe him.
“What? She’s only a human! Why do you care?”
I sighed, we were wasting time here. Choosing to ignore him I faced the tearful girl, “What are your names?”
She hesitated before answering, looking confused. “I- I’m Chloe, and my friend is called Melissa.”
I nodded, “Go home; if I see her I will point her in your direction.”
“But-“
“Go home!” as I said the words I looked into her eyes, pushing the intent to the forefront of her mind.
I turned away, not waiting to check that she was moving away. I knew she would, she didn’t have a choice. Instead I chose to keep walking. I led them around the back, thinking that we would be far to exposed if we just strolled in the front door. Felix’s story was confirmed when we came across the bodies of two security guards slumped against the wall of the alley. One human and one vampire. I frowned at Felix, “Humans on security?”
