CHAPTER VI: SEATTLE'S BEST, I ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE

"Good thing I know what I'm worth
Want a good thing, put the money down first
Better get a good look baby
'Cause soon I'm breaking out of here." - Lady Gaga, Diamond Heart

The Seattle's Best is, indeed, a coffee shop that serves coffee beverages, and other stuff, just like Starbucks, the logo of the store, a round red with thin gold stripes behind the store's name, is hanging freely outside the store, attached to the metal ceiling. Slate grins at me, brows wiggling as he jerks his thumb over his shoulder, pointing to the store. A month ago, the thought of spending time with a demon would seem ludicrous to me, but now that I'm really spending a time with a demon, I'm amazed by it. If Slate were just a mere human, with no tints of sins and demonic aura around him, then he and I would be best of friends.

Despite that I'm still wearing the clothes that he has lent me yesterday, he reaches for my arm and tugs me, basically forcing me to come inside the coffee shop. The demon – Slate – opens the door and a bell chimes, which surprises me a bit. The smell of coffee tickles my nostrils as we step inside and I see a couple of mortal hanging around the place, their drinks in their hands as they happily chat with their friends.

There are sacks of bean bags placed on top of the counter, just beside the machine that dings when a button has been pressed. Over the counter is a girl named Julianna, her blonde hair, with streaks of brown, is pulled up in a bun, and on top of her head she's wearing a red hat with the logo of the store. She's wearing a red apron over a white simple t-shirt, and on the chest, on the left side, is the embroidered logo of the store. Her skin is just like a porcelain, a glass, smooth, and her freckles in her cheeks are visible, almost covering her cheeks. She has a toothy grin that compliments her pale, with flecks of gold, green eyes. As we near the counter Julianna immediately eyes the demon, and the lust is evident in her eyes. She rakes the demon's body, biting her lower lip as her eyes meet the demon's eyes.

I frown in disgust, rolling my eyes at the mortal girl. I can practically see the lust getting into her system as the demon leans down and rests his arm on the counter, merely touching the mortal's arm. "My boyfriend and I would like to order a... what do you want, babe?" My head snaps into his direction so fast that it nearly sprains my neck. I stare at him with wide eyes, mouth agape. The demon grins at me maniacally and I fume in anger. I shut my eyes, tell myself to calm down and ignore him, and open my eyes to look at the menu. The names of the drinks capture my attention, and they all seem tasty to me. I've only drunk coffee once, and it tasted good, with lots of milk and sugar. I squint my eyes just to see the menu much clearer, because having a mortal eyes sucks. The mortal woman looks annoyed now as her eyes bore into me, and she seems to give me a glare, which I completely ignore. Suddenly an arm snakes around my waist and pulls me closer, to the demon, and I shriek. Slate grins to me and gives me a chaste kiss on my cheek. I put my palm in my cheek where his landed, and I frown at him. "I can choose for you. Two Iced Caramel Pretzel Mocha." He orders, then pulls out a couple of dollars – a $10 bill – and hands it to the mortal girl over the counter, who obviously brushes her hand against Slate's hand and she winks at him. "Keep the change."

"Poor mortal girl," I mutter under my breath, shaking my head disapprovingly.

Upon hearing my statement, Slate turns to look at me and pouts. "Don't be a meanie."

We move to the side, and another mortal girl named Kathie works on our orders. She's dressed up just the same with Julianna, but her hair is naturally dark, hiding beneath the cap she's wearing. She's got a pair of beautiful blue eyes and I stare into her eyes as she works, and a smile graces up my lips, which makes her blush. For a moment I look at her, checking to see the curves of her body, her exposed collarbones, and her neck. She tilts her head to the side, as if sensing that I'm looking at her neck, and exposed her skin to me. I stare at it, longer than I intend to, but the demon pushes me away, knocking me off from staring. I glare at him and the demon returns the glare, but his eyes are basically on fire. If Slate were in a demon form, he would be totally snarling, showing his deadly fangs at me. But since he's in a human form, he looks like he just wants to beat the crap out of me.
