Sofia never liked attending functions. She had always despised the get together of elite class and tried to run away from them. But luck had never been on her side. Every single time her father would give her a look and she would cower before him. It wasn't that she feared him, she just respected his wishes. Anyway, attending a function wasn't a big deal right? Right.

But dressing up, applying make up and smiling at everyone definitely was and she hated that. Sigh. She was just wasting her time by complaining. Groaning, she stood up from the bed and picked up the plum dress from the chair. It was knee length dress and had no sleeves but she had it planned out - Sofia would wear a small cardigan over it that was silver in color and match it with leggings. Perfect. Not that she cared.

After getting dressed she applied small amount of make up on her face and walked out. It was a family dinner at her in laws. Xander had not returned yet even after five days but she wasn't as nervous as she expected. First she thought she would be extremely nervous due to presence of Salah over there and also because it was her first time attending a family dinner that she was supposed to attend with Xander. But she wasn't nervous. Not at all. Okay maybe she was?

If sweating hands and continuous swallowing gave away the idea of her being nervous then maybe she was nervous. But it wasn't like she would be alone over there. Her whole family would be there too, along with Salaar and his fiancé. Yes, fiancé. Sofia chuckled as she thought about her brother. He would be married in a week's time. She thought amused.

After their first meeting, Ayla and Salaar took quite some liking towards each other. Salaar might act like he didn't care but he did and he was always eager to go see his supposed fiancé. Sofia was so happy for her brother. At least he was getting married to someone he liked and didn't get stuck.

Sofia stop it! Where the hell did that come from. You like Xander. LIKE!

She scolded herself mentally and guilt trapped her in an instant. What was she even thinking? Salah's existence didn't matter to her now. She didn't care if he existed or not and she was missing her husband terribly. It was just her stupid mind thinking all sort of irrational things. Sighing, she closed her eyes and sat down on sofa in living room. Their chauffeur would take her to her in laws' manor so she needed to wait a little.

Grabbing her phone from her lap she switched it on and stared at the text messages - their conversation last night. Oh God she was acting like a love sick teenager. It was just a good night text, nothing affectionate then why was her face heating up? A day before yesterday when Salaar dropped her home she found her phone inside her room and two text messages were unread.

//Good night! I am sorry I have not been able to call.//

//Why are you not responding Sofia? Are you alright? Send me a message so that I can start my day over here. Don't keep me waiting here, worried.//

Sofia had instantly grinned like she did when she graduated from high school or when her father sent her to France with Salaar. Why was he so caring and why couldn't she stay mad at him for long?

I am fine. Night :)

He hadn't replied after that but she didn't mind. She was just too happy to care. Now coming to the present, their butler told her that the car was ready and Sofia was already on her way to the grand dinner.

During the ride she had that sense of paranoia nagging at the back of her mind. There were plenty of white cars on the highway but none seemed to be too suspicious as the one behind their's. It was white Maserati, quite impressive in her opinion but what irked her was the fact that it was literally behind her car and she felt as if the person was following her.
