Two Connected Souls

I remember my heart skipping a beat

In that day's vibrant heat,

Despite it being winter.

I was just a child

With the crazy mind

Of Athena

And the soul of Apollos.

Slowly, we both matured;

You were often sick, we couldn't seem to find a cure;

But Lord, were you joyful- a lot.

I was surprised at how similar we were-

Basically, two of the world oyster's pearls.

Both different, enclosed- but free.

You broke the silence in my heart

With your tiny, weak hands-

And today, together we stand.

Your big blue eyes reflect your trust.

They all have told us to change, they said we must.

But we've found each other, and we're okay.

You're so young, and so am I-

But as for our weakness, those are all lies.

We both have flaws, so what?

I'm proud to be related to you.

Please, please, tell me you're my best friend too.

Author's Note:

This poem is dedicated to my little niece. I feel so connected with her, and I wrote this to tell her that she's my close friend. I love her so much!
