Jezebel was around 10 weeks pregnant with her first baby; she was waiting to get her latest ultrasound to check up on the baby. John was with her. She had just had a bit of her blood taken to have three fetal proteins measured, so felt a little queasy due to having an uneasiness to needles.

Nurse Redheart came into the waiting room; she looked to her clipboard in hand, before calling, "Jezebel Constantine?"

Jezebel struggled - she had already gained a bit of weight that caused her to wobble when first standing after sitting -, causing John to quickly stand beside her and help her. She waved to the nurse, "Here."

"Hi, I'm Ashley Redheart, and I'll be your midwife for today." Nurse Redheart gave a friendly smile; she opened the door to the corridor they would be going down, "This way, please."

John and Jezebel followed the nurse down a couple of doors, before she stopped to allow them in; the room was dimly lit and pretty bare, except for the pin board that had a few pregnancy leaflets on. In the middle of the room, a large couch was placed, and next to it a small trolley like cabinet with a monitor attached to the top; the monitor showed a screensaver, indicating it hadn't long been in use, and was left on. The nurse hinted to this seat.

"Please, take a seat."

Jezebel took the seat, struggling to get up onto it, since it was actually taller than she expected; John helped her up. She leaned back against the backrest, propping herself up onto her right arm.

"So, is this ultrasound just to check if the baby's heart rate and breathing are good?" She asked.

"Yes, that is correct; it is also to check up on your own as well, to make sure not only the baby, but you are in good health as well." Nurse Redheart set up the machine; the nurse turned with a sweet smile, "Would you lift your top and lower your leggings?"

Jezebel lifted her top to just above her belly, and then lowered her leggings to her hips.

"This might be a bit cold at first." Nurse Redheart took out a tub of ultrasound gel from the cabinet, putting a bit of tissue between Jezebel's clothing to protect them from the gel, and began to rub the gel on Jezebel's stomach, causing her to flinch at the coldness of the jelly.

"Oh, you were right about that." Jezebel added with a giggle; John had his right hand placed over her right arm, and his left arm around her shoulder for support as the top half of the chair was a bit lower than she would have wanted; he looked almost as nervous as she was.

Nurse Redheart took hold of the probe part of the ultrasound machine from the top of the cabinet beside the monitor, "It might take a little while for it to kick in, so there's no need to worry if you don't see anything to begin with."

The nurse started to roam it over the jelly placed on Jezebel's belly, as she watched the monitor. After a short couple of seconds, it was surely enough Jezebel was carrying not one, but two babies as evident by the black and grey picture on the screen. She pressed the probe a slight bit harder to get a clearer picture of them.Their healthy heartbeats filled the room. Nurse Redheart smiled at this.

"And there are your babies, Mr and Mrs Constantine. Both healthy, as are you."

Jezebel happily watched as the two babies were huddled together and were making a slight movement every now and then. She took a quick glance at John, and then quickly looked back at the monitor, but in the couple of seconds she looked at him, she saw his eyes threatened to spill tears of joy.

She looked back at the monitor with excitement as she took hold of his hand and squeezed slightly, "Look, John; there are our babies!"

Smiling like an idiot, John wasn't able to take his eyes off the monitor his only 10 week old children were on. He hugged closer into Jezebel, but pulled slightly away, his tone of voice taking on surprise, "Wait, babies? As in, more one than one?!"

Nurse Redheart looked at him, with a small smile, and raised eyebrows,"Yes."

She turned back to Jezebel, "While we may not know for sure if your babies have any defects right now, you can always come back for another scan in around 4 weeks to double check. By the looks of things, they don't. I can also determine that your due date is May 11th, but most pregnant women don't give birth on their exact due date, so you could expect them to be earlier or later."

Before leaving, they turned to Nurse Redheart and smiled, "Thank you."
