It was one person. Well a group of people actually, though some won't even call them that. They were the ones that made the world aware of mutants. I mean we've all heard of the freak radioactive accidents that create monsters like the hulk. Or some mad scientist mixing chemicals to create the super soldier. But never before did we realize that there was a whole race of them being born into human society.
In the mutant world, time is divided into two sections (well more than that, but that's for later), before that event and the chaos that it incited for mutant-kind afterwards. It was the world's first real look at mutants and it wasn't a good one.
I'm getting ahead of myself though, let's go back to before it happened, before even mutants really knew what mutants were. It was the start of a whole cause, the birth of a nation within a nation.
