The last week has been torture. I see now that I was naïve to think that everything would okay in high school. That high school would be big enough to shield me from the nightmare that is Sydney and Jamie.

I'm not the kind of person to complain, but it's absolutely humiliating. I've been hazed like there's no tomorrow. Everything from swirly whirlys to cafeteria mystery meat in my hair. And my headaches don't help either.

Polly's trying to help, but I can tell even she's starting to get tired of me. She has a steady group of friends, though every time I'm around, conversations slow to an awkward stop. The past couple of days I've tried to avoid them. I know Polly's been looking for me, but I would hate to be in the way of her friendship because of me.

What is happening to me? I had friends. We used to hang out all the time. Ever since my dad died however, they slowly edged away and I became the weird loner girl.

Suddenly my hands stop typing again, taking me out of my thoughts. "Ugh," I sigh in frustration as my computer screen freezes once again. Thankfully, the program I was working on is saved in my hard drive. I've been working on it for almost 2 months and my computer science teacher is letting me work on it further for a project.

"Did it crash again?" Mr. MacDonald asks wheeling his office chair towards me.

I nod. "I'm not sure what's going on. I hardly made any changes to the  software that could cause the computer to freeze. It can't be the computer because I've used multiple." I'm saying my steps out loud to try and find the answer, but it isn't coming to me like it usually does. It's called rubber duck debugging, when a coder speaks her code to a rubber duck to try and find the bug in the program. In this case I'm just talking to myself, I really need a rubber duck.

Mr. MacDonald scratches his head. "I don't know what to say Kitty. Perhaps you should just sit this one out today, you're already ahead of this class. And we can't have you crashing more computers." He chuckles at the last part, but I can't help but wonder if I'm actually causing it.

"Come on Kitty Cat! Don't make us lose!" Sydney yells from below me, its last period gym class, my favourite. I grit my teeth. The only reason why we are not first is because Sydney and Jamie decided their manicure is more important than gym class. Lucky for them I'm fiercely competitive, so I climb up the rope faster.

The bell isn't far from my reach now. I grab the rope above me to pull myself up, but my hand catches nothing. I try again, but I can't seem to get a grip. What's going on?

"What are you doing Kitty?!" Jamie yells at me. I'm not sure myself. Again I grab, this time paying close attention. My hand passes right through the rope! I look around me, the other girls on the other ropes are catching up to me. They're about to ring the bell.

Come on, I start to get nervous. I reach upwards again. This time I feel one of my legs start to slip. Shoot. What if I fall? Right now the only thing that's keeping me up is my right leg and left arm. I don't consider myself weak, but I don't think I can hold on like this for much longer.

Desperately I try and find traction with my left leg and right arm, but nothing holds. I can't touch anything physical. Panic sets in as I realize that I could fall, 20 feet from the ground.

The other girls have already rung their bells and are making their descent. I can hear Sydney's huffs of frustration from up here.

"Pryde, what's wrong with you?" Ms. Mahoney shouts from below.
