Sandali kong pinuno ng hangin ang dibdib ko bago ko nilapitan si Baron. Nasa may likod-bahay siya ng tahanan ng mga Barrimore at katatapos lamang makipag-usap sa panganay na anak ni Alpha Pierre. 

No one wanted to tell me about the lycans who invaded the Crescent Pack's territory. I was hoping that he would at least give me some information about it. 

"Baron," I called.

Sinalubong ako ng natural na masungit niyang titig. Hindi rin sumagot. Tumitig lamang sa akin na tila napakamahal ng laway niya para sayangin sa akin. 

Seriously, if he and Hank don't look like each other, hinding-hindi ko talaga paniniwalaang kambal sila.

Huminto ako sa kanyang harap at tiningala siya. "I wanna know about those lycans who attacked Crescent--"

"They didn't attack. They came to warn us," putol niya sa sinasabi ko. 

My forehead creased when I saw no trace of lie in his expression. "W-Warn?"

"Yeah," he answered in a bored way before he walked a few steps away from me.

I watched him pick up the axe sitting near the pile of woods. Kinagat niya ang suot na dogtag at hinubad ang puting tee shirt. Tila walang pakialam kahit na bumalandra sa harap ko ang katawan niya. 

Umiwas ako ng tingin nang hindi ko makita ang itaas niyang katawan. "Why would they do that?"

He effortlessly placed a large chunk of wood on top of a bigger one. "Because they wanted Alpha Levi to know that they're done waiting for the right time," sagot niya bago walang hirap na hinati ang malaking piraso ng kahoy. 

Lalong nalukot ang aking noo. Ang aking tingin ay muli na ring bumalik sa kanya. "Right time for what?"

Baron rested the axe on his shoulder as he met my gaze. "To steal the position from Alpha Levi so you better be useful because you're the reason why they had the upper hand." Dumampot siya ng mas malaking tipak ng kahoy. "Just so you know, I don't easily bow down to anyone unless they've proven that they're worthy of my respect."

"Baron," may riing sita ni Hank sa kapatid. Ni hindi ko namalayang papalapit na pala siya sa amin.

Baron glared at his brother. "What? She hasn't officially accepted her position in the pack. I don't submit to her yet."

Halatang naiinis na umiling si Hank bago tumingin sa akin. "Tara sa loob."

I gave Baron one last glance before I followed Hank. Nang makarating kami sa kusina ay ipinagsalin niya ako ng lemonade na tingin ko ay si Luna Yngrid ang gumawa.

"Don't mind him," pag-alo ni Hank sa akin.

I sighed. "Why did he say it's my fault?"

Hank fell silent for a few moments. Maya-maya ay bumuntonghininga siya bago muling sinalubong ang tingin ko. "Maybe it's best if Alpha will tell you about it."

Of course, he's not going to tell me either. Bakit pa nga ba ako umasa?

I moistened my lower lip. Sandali kaming nabalot ng katahimikan bago ako muling nagtanong.

"Do you know any other ways for me to help Levi? Cuddling doesn't seem to work that fast. I've seen Alpha Pierre's wounds. Parang sandali lang ay naghilom kaagad ang mga sugat niya. Hindi gaya ng kay Levi."

"Mas matatagalan talaga ang kay Alpha dahil hindi pa naman established ang bond ninyong dalawa. You haven't honored your connection through a union. The longer mates are together and the deeper their connections are, the faster they can heal each other." Uminom siya nang kaunti sa kanyang baso bago ulit tumingin sa akin. "Isa pa, I don't think Alpha Levi is allowing you to feel his pain. Maybe he doesn't want you to take some because you might not be able to handle it."
