Chapter 5: Shower Troubles

Shower Troubles

I don't know what made me think that this shower was going to be normal. Maybe ,because I made a break through with Adisa a short while before. Maybe ,because I had forgotten momentarily he was a wild man. Everything didn't go as planned. I had been in the shower for twenty minutes before I had heard noises outside of the shower. The door creaked sinisterly on it's hinges. I could barely hear the sound of feet padding in the bathroom. To be honest it freaked me out. Scenes from Psycho played in my mind as I heard footsteps come closer to the shower. I refused to be a character in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

My mind was playing scenes when the shower curtain was ripped away with a deafening screech. I jumped back so fast that I had almost fallen ,and gripped the walls as if it was my life line.

I knew I should've gotten my plumbing fixed in my adjoining bathroom.

Adisa stood there and with a curt nod walked through the already open door. I had to stand there for a moment and let the fear settle before I felt a tinge of anger, mostly at myself for not locking the door. I eventually turned the shower off and wrapped a fluffy cotton towel around myself. My head peaked out of the door to see his location. He was in the kitchen messing with a salt shaker. I kind of hoped he ate some of the salt and he tasted... salty? His eyes were narrowed in focus and confusion. I took my chance and walked briskly to my room. Once on the room, I quickly shed the towel and began to get dressed.

I looked in the mirror like I had often, sighing at my reflection. My hair was damp against my face and I had slight bags underneath my eyes that had most likely been there for a couple months. My skin was oily and ghastly pale. Casper had met his match. All in all, I looked weary.

It wasn't a new look on my face, so I couldn't even try to blame it on Adisa. Dan, maybe. That expression made look way older and sadly less womanly in my opinion. The look had been born the moment my dream job had turned to hell. Library Director seemed so sweet from afar. It was a nice goal to work for too ,but once I had gotten there, I noticed I had no one to share it with. Dan's traveling had become more sporadic and I hadn't had another close friend since high school. To top it all off I had gotten dumped by my ex, Jeremy Sykes. So as my career was heading into new bounds, everything else- my social life and love life- was at a stalemate. I had tried the party scene ,but it had never been for me even in high school. Late night bars were good until I opened my mouth. The guys that came up to me weren't interested in anything I had to say or even me for that matter. It was only a skin deep attraction. They could've cared less about how work was going and if I ever seen a celebrity ,which were the 'icebreaker' questions some I them asked. Sometimes I thought I was born in the wrong time period, because it's very hard to fit in. Sometimes when I looked in the mirror it reminded me of the spinster I was going to become.

If I hadn't already.

My mind had completely forgotten about Adisa until I saw him after leaving my room. He was kind of hard to miss from the choking sound he was making. I bolted to his side and began to mimic the Heimlich Maneuver posters in the library to no avail. As a last resort , I pried his mouth open in the hopes of getting whatever was out of his throat only to find salt.

I analyzed the situation. My fingers were shoved in his mouth over salt. I sprawled out on the ground and laughed. Laughed harder than earlier and harder than I had in a long time at myself. He knuckle-walked over to me, staring at me like I was the fool.

I planned on bringing the law down on Adisa, and scold him for the shower incident, but clearly my plans were deterred.
