chapter 9

The next day was a schoolday, and Stiles wanted to stay home with the pups to take care of them, but Derek convinced him to go. After all, "How difficult can taking care of four toddlers be? And they still have their own minds. We'll be fine" Well,  Stiles wasn't so sure about that. He knew the pups were still themselves, but they did have the instincts of the one- and two year olds the darach had changed them into. But, like Derek had said, he was capable of taking care of four toddlers for a couple of hours, so Stiles decided he had to stop worrying and focus on his classes, which he had to andmit he found quite a challenge right now. But, the first periods passed without any panicked calls or texts, so he decided to just relax, until he got a phone call from Derek during history. "Sir? Can I please go to the bathroom?" He asked the teacher, who nodded and went on with his class, so Stiles rushed out and ran into a bathroom stall. "Derek, is everything okay?" He asked the moment he picked up, but judging from the crying he heared through the phone it couldn't be good. "Stiles, thank god. I have no idea what I'm doing and please help me" Derek said in a panicky voice. "Okay, I'll be there. Give me five minutes" Stiles said before hanging up. He went into the nurses office, convinced her he had a flu and five minutes later he was on the road. When he arrived at the house it was pure chaos. Derek was holding a wailing Scott who seemed to have a hole in his head, Isaac and Jackson were on the couch, eyes shut tight and trembling while Ethan just stood next to the door, looking to everyone with a panicked look on his little face. Also, the tv was producing loud shooting noises which didn't really help the situation. "Mommy!" Scott wailed when he noticed who'd come in, and he reached his hands out to Stiles, who rushed over after grabbing the tv remote and turning it mute. He took Scott from Derek and softly rocked him back and forth while shushing him and reassuring him, until his wails had turned into sniffles and his head had healed. "What happened here?" He asked Derek in a cold voice, at which Scott looked up, startled by his tone. "Shh sweetie, I'm not mad at you" Stiles said softly. "He fell down the stairs, so I turned on the tv for the others, but then they started crying too" Derek explained. "You let him go down the stairs alone? And what did you put on?!" Stiles yelled, and Derek cowered under his mates voice. "Natural geographic" He said, and Stiles handed Scott to Derek and looked at the tv. "That's a war documentary you idiot!" He yelled while turning off the tv and walking to the couch where Isaac and Jackson were still crouched together. When he got closer he noticed Jackson had actually wet himself out of fear, and he mentally cursed Dereks stupidity while lifting both boys up in his arms. "Come on, let's run you two a bath" He said softly while walking upstairs with the two in his arms. He put them down on the bathroom floor and ran some water in the tub. When he turned to Jackson the boy had turned a deep crimson and was looking down at his pants disgustedly. "It's not your fault Jackson" Stiles said, but Jackson seemed to think differently. "It's humiliating" he muttered while Stiles took off the boys shirt, and Isaacs after that. They both seemed reluctant to undress completely in front of the other pup, but at least they stopped protesting after Stiles reminded them they did that every day after lacrosse practice. "But how was your day before the whole ordeal with Scott?" Stiles asked the boys when they were both in the tub. "Well, we woke up around nine, and Derek almost dropped me. Twice" Jackson complained. "Well, he actually dropped me" Isaac added, and Stiles sighed. "I take it Derek isn't good with children?" He asked rhetorically, and Jackson rolled his eyes. "What'd you expect?" He retorted, making Isaac giggle. "I don't want you using that tone with me Whittemore" Stiles warned playfully while tickling the young boy. "Well, I'm gonna wash your hair and after that you two are going to take a nap" he told the two toddlers. "But we're not tired!" Isaac protested, making Stiles chuckle. "Not yet, but your bodies need a lot of sleep. If you don't take a quick nap right now, you'll collapse before five this afternoon" he told them while getting them out of the tub and quickly drying them off before putting them in their onesies. He put them on his hips and walked over to their room where he quickly tucked them in before walking downstairs and he cooed at what he saw there. Derek was sitting on the couch, a sleeping Scott in his arms and Ethan on the couch next to him watching spongebob. "Hey guys" Stiles said softly, careful not to wake Scott. "I'm gonna put him to bed, I'll be right back" he said before gently taking Scott out of Dereks arms and putting him to bed. When he got back, he sat down and looked at Derek until the man almost withered under his glare. "Okay Stiles, I'm sorry! I didn't know taking care of them would be so difficult!" He exclaimed, and Stiles just raised an eyebrow. "Isaac told me you dropped him" he said calmly, making Derek feel even more uncomfortable than he had been before. "I told you I was sorry Stiles!" He yelled, and suddenly Stiles looked furious. "Sorry won't cut it Derek! You got the pups hurt! How could you do that?! Don't you know you can't take your eyes off little children?! You could have gotten them killed!" He yelled, and Derek was about to yell something back when they were startled by a small whimper next to them. They looked around to see Ethan looking at them with big, watery eyes. "Are you going to break up now?" he asked softly, and immediatly the angry look on Stiles' face was replaced by a reassuring one. "I'm sorry sweetie, we didn't mean to scare you. And of course we're not breaking up, I was just letting my worry about you guys out on Derek a bit. And between you and me, he can be a bit of a dumbass, can't he?" He said conspicuously while poking the toddlers belly button, making him giggle softly. "Well little man, you're going to take a nap too, I'll wake you guys up when the others get home" he said before bringing him to bed. When he got downstairs, Derek was still sitting on the couch. "Look Derek, I'm sorry for snapping at you, I know it wasn't your fault. It's just that when I thought about what could've happened with them, I freaked" Stiles said apologetically. "No Stiles, you were right. For gods sake, I dropped Isaac! I honestly have no idea how to take care of children, and I should've called you for help sooner" Derek apologised. "Yes, you should have. But what's done is done, so let's just agree I'm staying home until they're back to normal" Stiles answered. "Ow, and did Deaton call yet?" He asked curiously, and Derek smiled and nodded. "Yes, thankfully he did. He told me he recognised the potion she used and knows how to make the antidote. Might take a week or two to prepare it though" he said, and Stiles felt terribly relieved. "Thank god they're gonna be back to normal soon!" He exclaimed while hugging Derek. "I mean, taking care of them is all fun and games sometimes, but I'd prefer the adult versions. Less temper tantrums, for once, would be nice" He said with a wink to Derek, who chuckled. "You're an idiot" he said while pecking Stiles' lips. "But I'm your idiot" Stiles retorted before reconnecting their lips. They made out for a quite a while, until they were interrupted by a loud wail from upstairs. "Fuck" Stiles exclaimed while jumping off Derek. "We have to be quick now" he said, making Derek look at him strangely. "Why?" He asked curiously, and Stiles threw him a panicked look. "Because at their age crying is contageous" he said while running up the stairs. He made his way to the toddlers bedroom, and noticed that thankfully only Isaac and Ethan had woken up, and he was very grateful for the depth of a toddlers REM sleep when he picked up Isaac and told Derek to take Ethan. They made their way downstairs without Derek dropping anyone, even though Stiles needed to teach him a lesson in how to hold little children, and he wasn't really surprised anymore that Derek had dropped Isaac before. "Hey baby, what's wrong? It's okay sweetie, don't cry, I'm here" he cooed to the little boy on his lap when he'd sat down on the couch, Derek was sitting next to him and had a much harder time at calming Ethan. "Give him to me" Stiles said softly while pulling both toddlers on his lap and rocking them back and forth softly. "Calm down sweeties, it's all okay, your safe, I'm here" Stiles kept cooing and shushing at them until they were both hiccuping a little, even though Isaac still sobbed occasionally. "I don't even know why I'm crying" Ethan hiccupped confusedly. "Because Isaac was crying too sweetie, that's a natural reaction of your body" Stiles explained, and a little frown appeared on the toddlers face. "I hate this body" he exclaimed, making Stiles chuckle. "I think I can understand that. The good news is though, that in two weeks you'll be back to normal!" Stiles exclaimed, and both toddlers on his lap looked relieved. "And you little curly, why were you crying?" Stiles asked Isaac, who looked up to him with big eyes. "I had a bad dream" he explained with teary eyes, and Stiles cuddled the boy close to his chest. "It's okay baby, it's okay" he sighed when the boy snuggled even closer to him, and he noticed Ethan had scooted over to Derek and whispered something in Dereks ear, after which Derek chuckled and looked at Stiles. "I think that's something you'll have to ask Stiles" he told the boy, who immediatly looked over at Stiles pleadingly. "Mommy.." He said, making Stiles chuckle softly. "What is it sweetie?" He asked the impatient toddler in front of him. "Can you make us cookies?" He asked seriously, and Stiles felt Isaacs head snap up to look at him expectantly. "Well..." Stiles said, pretending he was doubting, which made Derek chuckle softly. "Mommy pleeease?" Isaac asked him sweetly. "Well, that depends" Stiles said, and the pups looked at eachother confusedly. "On what?" Ethan asked. "Well, I'm gonna need some helpers to make the dough..." Stiles said, and he could hardly believe how fast their heads snapped up. "We can help!" They exclaimed simultaniously, and Stiles acted surprised for their amusement. "Well dang it, I hadn't even thought about that. Let's head to the kitchen than, shall we?" He said while putting Ethan on his feet and Isaac in his usual place on his hip. They walked into the kitchen and Stiles placed Isaac in the high chair the girls had brought along the day before, making Isaac pout at him. "I don't wanna sit in this thing!" He exclaimed, and Stiles just gave the boy a look that said that he wasn't getting out of that chair. "Wel, I don't want you falling off the counter, so you're sitting there" Stiles told Isaac, who stopped protesting but still kept the pout on his face until Stiles gave him a little of the chocolate-chip dough. By the time the cookies werd in the oven, the pups were incredibly proud of 'helping' with the baking while Stiles thought it was the most adorable thing he'd ever seen. "So, in half an hour they'll be done, let's go watch some tv in the mean time, okay?" He asked the pups, and Ethan toddled over to the couch while Isaac was still waiting to be picked up. Around the time the cookies were ready, the older pups came home from school as well, and Stiles decided to wake Jackson and Scott. "Do you want to help me wake them?" He asked the girls, who immediatly looked happier than he'd ever seen them before. When they entered the pups' room they let out a simultaneous "Ahww" at the two sleeping toddlers. "Wake them carefully, don't startle them" Stiles told them, and Allison immediatly made her way over to Scott. "Hey Scott, wake up" She said softly, and Scott, who didn't really seem to notice who was there, drowsily mumbled something and reached his arms out, signaling to be picked up. Allison of course immediatly complied and held him to her chest, where the boy seemed to smell something off because he raised his head to look around. "Mommy?" He asked drowsily, making Stiles smile. "I'm right here sweetie, that's Allison who's holding you" he said softly, and Scott mumbled a drowsy "Okay" before promptly falling back asleep. Allison smiled and rocked him softly while Lydia walked over to the other crib where Jackson was sleeping. "Hey Jackson" she said in the same way as Allison had said it, but she picked the younger boy up too quickly, startling him awake. He looked around desorientedly, and when he found the person carrying him wasn't Stiles his drowsy toddler mind must've decided something was terribly wrong, because tears welled up in his eyes and he started crying for Stiles, who rushed over and took him out of Lydia's arms. The girl looked terribly insulted, but Stiles decided not to pay attention to that for now. "Shh Jackie, you're okay, it was just Lydia, it's okay" he said softly, and his voice seemed to calm the toddler down pretty quickly, until he was comfortably snuggled up against Stiles. "Do you wanna go to Lyds now?" Stiles asked him, and after a moment of doubt the boy nodded and stuck his arms out to Lydia, who happily took him from Stiles. Stiles looked at Scott and Allison, and he noticed Scott had slept through the whole ordeal. "How in the world did he sleep through that?" Erica muttered, and Stiles chuckled. "I honestly have no idea" he exclaimed. "Should we get them dressed?" Lydia asked hopefully, earning her a glare from Jackson she didn't even notice. "No, the others are still in their onesies as well, so let's just keep them in those for today" he said, once again becoming Jacksons favourite person. When they got downstairs, Stiles noticed they were watching football, so he turned off the tv immediatly, earning him scowls from everyone but the girls. "We were watching that" Aiden told him, and Stiles just raised one eyebrow at him. "Well, I think it's too violent for one and two year olds, so suck it up. Besides, don't you have homework to do?" Stiles asked all of them, making everyone but Allison, Danny and Lydia roll their eyes and mutter "Yeah.." before they grabbed their bags and sat down at the kitchen table. "We finished already in a free period" the girls and Danny told him, and Stiles smiled at them before taking out the freshly baked cookies and giving everyone a few. Derek, the girls, Danny, the toddlers and him sat down in the living room and started talking about their days. Obviously, when the girls heared about the fiasco that was Derek with children, they simultaneously decided to glare at him, until the kids had all assured them they were fine. "But you were injured!" Allison exclaimed while hugging Scott, who was looking terribly uncomfortable, closely. "Yeah, but I healed" Scott said while trying to wriggle out of Allisons grip. Meanwhile, Lydia and Jackson were having an argument about whether or not she got to dress him, and Jackson was obviously horrified by the mere idea. "Lydia, I think I'll dress them, but I'll let you have a pick in what would look best on them, okay?" He asked, and Jackson threw him a grateful glance. When it was time for dinner, Jackson and Isaac threw fits about them having to sit in a high chair again, but Stiles wouldn't budge, so they ended up in there anyway. After dinner Stiles brought Isaac and Ethan to bed, because they'd barely had a nap and they looked positively exhausted. After that the girls made it their mission to coo at Scott and Jackson so much that Scott actually ended up hiding in the broom closet, so he decided to ask the girls to calm down a little. He pulled the two boys onto his lap.and they all decided to play a game of monopoly together, with Scott in Allisons team and Jackson in Stiles' because he refused to go with Lydia (even though she was really good at monopoly). In the end, the boys ended up falling asleep half way through the game so Stiles put them to bed. When he came downstairs, he was met by multiple shocked faces. "What's going on?" He asked, and everyone looked at Derek, who cleared his throat. "Mr. Harris is missing"
