Percy's POV

I was woken up in my warm, comfortable bed by my annoying alarm clock. Ugh, school. I stayed in bed, hoping to get another five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen. Then, my mother, Sally, loudly banged on my door.

"Percy! Get out of bed! I know you're up!" She yelled.

"Uuuuuuuugh!" I moaned.

"I made pancakes!" She called as she started walking down the hall.

I quickly sat up, throwing on a shirt and sweatpants. I lazily threw my covers off and slowly walked towards the kitchen.

"Morning." My mom smiled at me as she flipped a hot pancake onto my plate.

"Morning." I smiled back at her, grabbing the butter and the plate.

I sat at the table and drowned my pancakes in syrup, quickly gobbling it down after, licking my plate.

"Have some manners, Percy." My mom warned me.

I put my dishes in the sink and rushed to my room to get ready. "Thanks mom." I said quickly.

"Mhm." She responded.

I walked to school, meeting up with my best friend, Annabeth, on the way. Annabeth and I have been the best of friends since the sixth grade. Well...seventh. She had to get used to me. But now, we are like peas and carrots (comment if you get my reference). We tell each other everything, and without her, I really don't know where I would be.

"Hey Seaweed Brain." She said as she gently nudged my shoulder.

"Hey." I replied.

We walked into Goode High, and I caught some girls standing by the bike rack, checking me out. Ha, if only they knew I was gay.

Yup, you heard me, I, Percy Jackson, am gay. Wow, shocking, I know. Why else do you think I joined the swimming team? To stare at guys butts. But nobody knows. Not even Annabeth. I've never really thought about coming out. I mean, if heterosexuals don't have to come out as "straight", then why would I have to come out and say "I'm gay everyone!"

The noisy bell rang, so Annabeth and I had to part ways, heading to first period. I had Ms.Johnston, the mean Jamaican lady who teaches algebra. I decided to use the bathroom, but I didn't need to "use" it. Just to pass some time. I was already failing her class (thanks to my awful dyslexia), so why bother to make it on time. I leaned on the white brick wall filled with writings, checking my phone. I checked my Instagram and saw that I got 168 likes on my most recent selfie. Slayyyy. After the tardy bell rang, I decided to just wash my hands and finally head to class.

"Yo late Mista Jackson." Ms.Johnston called from her desk, marking me tardy on the attendance sheet.

"I know." I shrugged, walking over to my desk. Next to me sat Leo Valdez, my good friend. He was gay also, but everybody knew it, because he has a boyfriend, Nico di Angelo.

"Where's Nico?" I whispered to Leo, looking over at the empty desk in front of him.

"He's skipping. I was going to go with him, but I didn't want to get in trouble." Leo responded as he started folding a paper airplane. This boy was always creating or fixing something. His well-known nickname was "Repair Boy"

Ms.Johnston turned around from the white board she was writing on. "I bettah not be hearin' any talking." She snapped, and she turned back around as she kept talking about finding the surface area of some sort of shapes.

Nico skipping, huh? I believe that. He was that sort of bad guy type. His dark, messy hair ever so slightly brushing his forehead, and I heard that he stretched his lobes the other week, but I never got a close-up look. I could always hear his music through his earbuds during class, but I could never make up the songs; clashing drums, muffled screams and epic guitars. He was about the same height as Leo, and I was a few inches taller than him. They've been going out since the end of last school year, and now it was November. To be honest, I am quite jealous of Valdez. How could he pick up someone as hot as Nico. Wait-what? Did I just call Nico hot?

"You okay?" Leo asked.

For the past five minutes I've been staring at the shelf full of math textbooks. "Yeah, um, I'm fine." I responded, snapping out of my daze.

"Okay." Leo threw his airplane across the room as it the teacher's butt and fell to the floor.

Ms.Johnston turned around and stared at the airplane. I tried to hold in my laughs as I looked away. I heard others try to hold in their laughs as well, and Leo turned a bright pink, looking at the opposite direction of Ms.Johnston.

"Valdez!" She called.

"That wasn't even me!!" Leo argued.

"Liar." I said under my breath. I felt Leo kick me under his chair.

Ms.Johnston was about to say another word, but then was interrupted when someone walked in through the door.

A tall, blonde figure stood there. He looked about as tall as me, if not maybe taller. He took a quick glance at the class, but then walked over to Ms.Johnston's desk, handing her a paper.

"Oh, class, this is yo new classmate, Jason Grace." She said.
