A candle can light pretty fast

A candle can light pretty fast. A hey, a hi, a first date. Our's took a bit longer. A hey, a hi, a bus ride, a friendship, a first date, a second one.

I loved you.

The way you wore my sweaters and pretended you fit into them.

How well you worked with those second graders at the Dojo down the street.

The way you would memorize show tunes from shows I'd never heard of.

The light in your eyes when you described your new story idea.

Our relationship was full of contradictory things:

Ice Cream in December

Hot Cocoa at 3am

A dorky writer with the god-damn hottest face I have ever seen.

You and Me.

But somehow it worked.

Nearly.

See, it turns out, you loved me a wee bit too much.

Basterd.

Leaving me alone.

The time it took our Candle to light did nothing for the instant it was extinguished. The second it was blown out. A Candle in the wind.

The moment I grew to hate the color red.

And guns.

Funerals.

The words "I'm sorry for your loss."

Now I know you're gone.

But I can't help looking for your smug-ass face when I wake up.

Sitting with coffee in the Kitchen laughing at how I finally slept in past you.

I can't help turning for your opinion when I buy something.

Or looking for you to back me up in an argument.

And it hurts.

But I'll be strong.

For you.

I miss you Percy.
