I hum quietly to myself as I wait by the princess' door, rocking on my feet impatiently, and hope that I'm not the one who is going to have to wake her up. From what I've heard from the other guards, she's not a morning person; she and M'ayris actually have something in common! Surprised? Yes. Yes I am.

"Men!" I jump slightly when I hear the head admiral's yell before standing at attention with all the members of the royal guard, "I've heard word that the princess chose a recruit to take General Soxaan's place while he's on leave." The admiral's gaze falls onto me; the smallest, and youngest person standing before him. I might be tall for my age, but I'm still a kid compared to many of the members of the royal guard. In fact, I'm only up to Fvendal's shoulder!

"I'll keep an eye on him sir," Fvendal states calmly to the admiral, "If he does anything incorrectly, I'll be sure to fix his problem before it becomes an issue."

"What was that Aceti?" the admiral takes a step closer to Fvendal and looks him accusingly in the eyes, "you're going to play babysitter for the Islander?"

Fvendal doesn't even react to the admiral's sudden hostility toward him, "Yes sir."

"How can I trust two non-imperials to protect the princess?" the admiral narrows his eyes at Fvendal. Fvendal isn't Imperial? He doesn't look like he's from any of the islands...

"I've protected her before," Fvendal's calm voice still doesn't change, "and I can do it again."

"I'm watching you," the admiral snaps before turning his attention to me, "you as well Islander. I'll make sure to remind everyone on the ship to keep an eye on their wallets." with that, the man walks off with perfect posture and his hands clasped behind his back.

"Don't take him too seriously," Fvendal states once the man is out of sight, turning to look at me, "He might seem rude and arrogant, which isn't wrong, but he's just trying to get under your skin."

"Right," I look up at Fvendal with curiousity. The thought of him not being Imperial never leaving my mind. Where is he from? Is he a merchant?

Is that how he found Woofless?

"Hey Mi'kai, can I ask you something?" Fvendal asks curiously, raising an eyebrow.

"Sure?"

"Have you ever heard of the seven great kingdoms?"

It felt like a dream come true. Sparks seemed to fill my entire being the moment I pressed my lips against his. I couldn't stop myself from doing so. It just, happened. I'm actually kissing him... Frags... kissing...

After seemed to be an eternity and less than a second all at once, reluctantly, I break the kiss and step away from him. I turn around so he couldn't see me look like a complete fool with my beat-red face and shaky hands. My first kiss was with Frags...

"I-I'm sorry," I somehow manage to stutter out, "I-I couldn't help mysel-"

"Don't apologize when you didn't do anything wrong," Frags' voice was steady, and I felt a hand on my shoulder. His hand.

"I feel like I have to," I murmur, "you probably don't like me the same way I like you. I shouldn't have done that," biting my lip, I start to walk away, but his hand grabs onto my arm before I do so.

"Woof, would I have kissed back if I didn't like you?" My heart skips a beat, and I freeze mid-step. He has a point.

"Why do you like me Frags? You're incredible. You have best friends who will lay down their lives to protect you, and people that love you," tears begin to well up in my eyes, and I use every ounce of my will-power to fight them back, "I have none of that."
