There were always stars dancing behind her eyes —
There were always constellations dotting the surface of her skin.
She shone brighter than others,
But it seemed like no one took interest in the galaxy or the astronomy
Before their eyes,
Because they disregarded her and found her difference to be
A reason to single her out
And hurt her.
I don't think they noticed when the stars behind her eyes stopped dancing
And the constellations flew away into the night
And she became lightless.
A darkness pooled into her once light filled eyes
But they continued to cause her misery because they themselves had been starved
Of the light that was once abundant within her.
